I'm surprised that so many bandies hate football season...
I mean, I live in Washington, where it rains every five seconds and it drops ten below what you thought it would be on a regular basis... and hell, I live for football season. I mean, I do enjoy watching our half-assed team get their whiney butts kicked up and down the field with a constant score of 10-18 bajillion (them). And hey, we get free hotdogs. But for the love of god, it freakin' SNOWED at the end of our last season. Brrrr! And I'm not a brass playa, so I don't have to put up with the coldness of a metal cup pressing on my dainty, bari sax playin' lips, but I do have to deal with a freezing cold instrument.

But I thought that marching and football season was the best of the last year... being outside and bitching about the cold, making bets about who can lick the freezing cold chain link fence for the longest (I didn't do it, but my friend did) and other such things that are so much fun. And you have to admit that watching the cheerleaders screw up their routines is fun, too.

1. Hard to argue
since you bring up cheerleaders.

2. Eh. We saw one of 'em get dropped on her butt trying to do a pyramid.
We couldn't stop laughing for about three days.

4. That sorta illustrates my take on cheerleading
It would seem that cheerleaders no longer exist, as such. What we have now are sideline gymnastics teams.

If they still did this, I wouldn't have much problem with 'em.

10. Exactly. Ours just kinda sit there and chill.
Really annoying. They take up two seats for them and their gear while we're crowded into the back, being rowdy and rude.

11. What gets me
is when there's 4:36 left and we're getting beat 56-3, and they're out there going "Balers are nuuuum-ber one" with the enthusiasm of fish at a board meeting.

12. Ours don't even do that.
The band does more cheering than they do.

6. Actually, no.
I play bari sax.

(Oops.. now I get it. John Phillip Sousa, not Sousaphone....)

No. We play lot of stuff. Try the Hey Song every five minutes, with Zoot Suit Riot, Low Rider, and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Yeah. We like 'em.

8. Eh.
I think the geekiest thing I've ever seen in our band is when we played tic-tac-toe on the frozen benches and whoever lost had to sing, not play, their parts in the fight song. Gawd... I lost so many times.

7. I was in the drumline - it was the only season I could stand.
Percussion parts in concert band are atrocious. The most boring things ever - quarter, quarter, eighth-eighth, quarter, over and over again. Ugh.

On the other hand, there are few bigger rushes than seeing a crowd respond to a good cadence.

9. Agree. I'm in bassline, so we get to chill in the back with the drummers.
They are cool cats.

18. My school's band had an "attitude"
True story: Every time our team scored, the band had to play the fight song. At one game, the football team decided to run up the score. The band got so sick of the fight song, they only played the first 2 lines. The band director, who believed in good sportsmanship, would stare daggers at the head coach. The team kept on running up the score. The band finally revolted & only played the first note. The coach got pissed, started yelling at the band, but the band director wouldn't make the band play anymore than the first note. Then the entire band except the drummers walked off, & the drummers played nothing but rimshots when the team scored.

After that game, the coach stopped the players from running up the score like that.

22. Yeah, by the time they got to the first note rebellion
we knew the "band director v. head coach sideline show" was a better option than the game.

21. We don't play for our team at all.
In fact, almost no school in SoMe has a band that plays at football games. Thank ALL!
