Bill Murray Suspected Of Driving Golf Cart Drunk
Swedish Police May Charge 'Caddyshack' Star With DUI

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Swedish police say Bill Murray could face drunken driving charges after rolling through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart.

Police said Wednesday that the actor smelled of alcohol when they pulled over his slow-moving cart.

When asked to blow into a breath test, he refused -- citing American laws, according to detective-inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm police.

6. Citing American laws?
In all of the states that I've had drivers licenses in, you are required to submit to a breathalyzer test, other other means, to determine your blood alcohol level if you're stopped for a suspected DWI.

When was Bill Murray last relevant?

9. You have to give Murray the benefit of the doubt:
He was drunk.

11. He could be in BIG TROUBLE!
As mentioned, Sweden's .02 blood-alcohol limit is four times lower
than limits in the U.S., so obviously much less alcohol may be
consumed prior to driving (legally) in Sweden. Moreover, penalties for
drunk driving in Sweden are severe.

Sweden considers a .10
blood-alcohol limit "aggravated" drunk driving. Imprisonment (of up
two years) is the recommended punishment for driving with a .10
blood-alcohol limit. The result of Sweden's tough drunk driving laws
has been a reduction in alcohol-related traffic fatalities.
For more information and details, see the report, "An Evaluation of
the Swedish Drunken Driving Legislation Implemented on February 1,
1994" by B. Borschos, available in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format on the
Vägverket web site:

13. I thought that was a rule when driving golf carts
At least on golf courses - I see he was in downtown Stockholm so it may be different there.
