Saw 21 Grams yesterday...
and was sorely disappointed. It got really good reviews, and I expected to love it.

I didn't even LIKE it. I hate that high-contrast, grainy photography, and I couldn't think of any compelling reason to tell the story in such a disjointed way.

Sigh... the last three movies I've seen were disappointments: Last Samurai, Big Fish and now 21 Grams.

1. partially agree
The acting was great, particularly Benicio's.
But the script was just souped up soap opera,
The editing and disjointed way of telling the story was a valiant attempt to defer resolution, but it ended up just coming across as cutesy.
I came away thinking that the fact that this is considered one of the best films this year says something about the competition.

But what do I know? I've been watching a lot of Fellini recently. It's probably not fair to compare any film these days (except for Lynch, Almodovar and Gilliam & maybe a couple of others I'm not remembering) to Fellini.

2. Big Fish was dissappointing, I agree
But I still want to see 21 grams. I love Penn, Watts and Del Toro

3. I love them all, too
especially Penn. That's why I saw it. Still disappointed....

I still haven't seen Mystic River, though - I suspect that one won't disappoint me.

4. Mystic won't disappoint.
I saw 21 grams also, and the editing was pissing me off until the story really got moving. I really think they could have done a better a job with a more straight forward way. I am very curious to hear the directors justifications for a 'Memento on mescaline' editing job.

5. Mystic River was awesome
An American Masterpiece. I cried five times, I'm such a baby! The acting and direction is perfect.

6. Mystic River
I thought it sucked!!!!! None of the characters mattered to me - felt they weren't
developed enough - Great acting but a poorly written script.

7. I think 21 grams is great
but I love Big Fish too (not as much as 21 Grams, though). I love the photography style and the non-linear narrative.
