What the hell is up with having telephone phobia?
I have to make a handful of simple telephone calls and the thought of picking up the phone fills me with incredible dread. I cannot believe how much of a neurotic moran I am.

1. I hate the phone. It brings me to my knees.
I keep my cell phone off and my house phone isn't even hooked up yet, tho I pay monthly for it.

2. I don't like phone conversations either...
There's nothing to talk about on the phone that can't be better said in person.

Not to mention there are lots of people I know who like to shoot their mouth off about illegal activities on the phone. My question is, did Bush's warrantless wiretapping mean nothing to you?

3. We all have our neuroses
Tell you what, I'll make your phone calls for you if you'll do my dishes. My SO left them standing in soapy water and now it's cold and has a film on it and that just gives me the willies. :scared:

4. I have the exact same problem.
I have my husband make all my appointments for me. I can't even order a pizza or talk to family. You aren't alone.

5. I always dread making phone calls
It has nothing to do with the person I'm calling. Mostly I know very well that the caller would enjoy talking to me. :silly: I just am axious about picking up the damn phone. :grr: :silly: Alternately, I jump out of my skin when the phone rings. :P

6. An extremely rare condition.
I spent last Saturday with a young friend, walking the flea market. She answered the phone every time it rang and no matter where she was proceeded to have a fairly loud one sided conversation. I found it maddening!
I really don't like to talk on the phone, but I haven't reached the phobic stage.

7. Oooh, I'm just the same way.
I'm okay with talking to my parents on the phone, or having to answer the phone, but making calls?

:scared::scared:

Where you have to punch in a series of numbers to hopefully get to a live person.

I can't talk long on a phone...I get distracted and edgy. I was dating this guy once who liked to yak and one night told him...gotta go, Star Trek's on.

"You mean, you'd rather watch ST than talk to me?"

"Yeah, we talked too much already. Buh bye." Click

10. My overweight sister won't call to order food delivery
She thinks when the guy comes he'll go back and tell everyone he just took food to a fat lady.

I get in those moods where the last thing on earth I want to do is have to get a straight answer from someone in telephone customer service. I don't think people who work in CS are inherently stupid or evil but what they're *allowed* to say by their giantglobalmegacorp usually makes it seem like they are. x(

12. I'm exactly the same way.
I can't stand calling people. I usually think something along the lines of "It's a bad time, they're probably out/eating dinner/sleeping" or "They don't want to talk to me" or something like that.

I need to call a few record stores to see if they have some CDs I want, too.

13. Then don't walk in a telephone call center.
If you're OK at answering calls then that's OK for the most part (I work in an inbound call center environment) but some people have to make outbound telephone calls and I couldn't see myself working in that environment - after all the outbound calls are most likely to either sell stuff and you get rejected at best, cursed at at worst. I guess working a collections call center making outbound calls must be one of the hardest jobs around. You got to deliver bad news and the only way you can put your head around it (i imagine) is to think bad things of the people you're calling, to make it appear that you're doing some good.

Mark.

15. I haven't always had this phobia
I worked phone banks for Clinton and Gore but I don't think I could do that today. Well maybe for Gore Feingold if I had some valium or something.

16. damn, are you my long lost twin?
Seriously, I'm the same with the mail. My agoraphobia is improving somewhat but only because my housemates become worse than my fear of leaving the house.
