Good Samaritans save mangled Siamese cat dubbed 'Dirt'

The young adult Siamese was found half-dead on Aug. 24 in the middle of Union Street in Rockland during rush hour traffic.

Paul Baillargeon of Warren, who works at the Rockland Wastewater Treatment Plant, was on his way to work the morning of Aug. 24 when he spotted a cat in the middle of Union Street that looked dead.

"I was just going to go by," he said, "and then, the cat looked up and was bobbing around. I said, okay, you need a second chance."

So Baillargeon, 58, pulled his vehicle into T.D. Banknorth across from the Knox County Courthouse, walked into the middle of busy Union Street and scooped up the cat.
