Call indicator light on the phone on, but nobody was on the phone.
I picked up the receiver and got that sort of static sound caused when the computer is online with dial-up. Only I have DSL. What happened? NSA hacking into my computer because of all the nasty ass things I post about cheney?

Or are the phone centers who call to disturb me laying off the underpaid, outsourced workers in favor of a computer that tries to fax me?

One more detail: The phone did not ring prior to this happening.

3. Really? That would make that static noise? Sure sounded like the ol dial-up static.
It stopped about 30 seconds after I picked up the phone and tried talking. The cordless phones all seem to be OK, but there is one I haven't checked. Phones work fine now. What does it sound like if someone is trying to fax you and you don't have a fax machine?

11. Just your normal everyday paranormal event...
Those sorts of things seem to happen to most of the people in my family.

Maybe some day over coffee, just you and me... Let us just say the event go me reading about theory that the soul, once free of the physical body, is mostly energy and so can use energy based medium sometimes.

Dad worked as a lineman after WWII. He understood juice and phones. But I don't expect most to believe he called ;)

7. Cheney wouldn't hack your computer.
He'd have the NSA sit in front of it for days, examining every file, while you enjoyed your Caribbean resort vacation.

10. Shhh! Don't say screen shots and bookmarks
The first sounds like an assassination term, the second implies that you read. They really will be after you if they know that!

12. Oh, I'm pretty sure they have been watching me a LONG time.
Back in 72, on a very obscure small college campus, I noticed whenever ANYONE came to speak for McGovern, there were LOTS of suits around, guys all in the same sunglasses, bulging at the shoulder holsters, taking notes, communicating via little radios and hand signs....

They paid a lot of special attention to any rally attendees in brown berets or black berets. Well, now, I had a really cool RED beret my mom brought back from a seminar trip to NOLA.

It was back in the day of Hot Pants. I was young, winsome, busty, and leggy back then... Knowing that the very dangerous liberal actor, Dennis Weaver would be on campus for Senator McGovern on a particular day, I donned my navy blue hot pants, a tight white knit top and my red beret. I strutted back and forth in front of that distinguished panel of spooks in suits for about 20 minutes while Chester, of Gunsmoke fame, spoke to a pretty small, inattentive bunch of kids on the quad.

Those suits were going nuts, signaling and radioing back and forth trying to figure what dangerous threat to the nation my red beret signified. The fucking twit never did get the joke of a tall blond in red, white, and blue sending them into a Nixonian paranoid frenzy.

Yeah, figured my file got started THAT day. Between that and the old OSS teacher I had....
