It's a mighty fine day to be a Spartan. And thank you, Appalachian State.

The sun is shining, another GOP hypocrite has resigned, the Spartans opened the season with a big win under their new coach. . .

And the Arrogance coming out of Ann Arbor is slightly less today than on most football Saturdays. As important as what else we discuss here? Of course not. But mighty impressive, what Appalachian State did.

Thanks also to Jehuu Caulcrick. Wow.

1. Glad I sold my tickets today
and it wasn't even on our cable system, since we don't get the Big 10 network. I had to listen on the radio, but it was probably better than actually seeing it. We really stunk out the joint, and I had a feeling this was going to happen. I wasn't one of those who was overly confident we'd beat them by a ton of points.

Last year I got a whole new attitude about football. If we win, great. If we lose, well, it's only football and there are so many more important things to be concerned about. It's been liberating. I just won't let myself get as upset as I used to.

2. Hey Sharon, your boys play my boys (Oregon Ducks) next
Saturday.

Right now, the Ducks are winning (still in the second quarter).

However, even if they win this week, it'll be a whole new ball game next Saturday.

4. Next week I'll actually be at the game.
I'm really afraid to see whether or not they get out of their coma. It was sooooo embarrassing! Time for Carr to go.

6. Next Saturday I'll be driving from Maryland to Lake Leelanau
For a week-long vacation in the Leelanau Peninsula, in a cottage right on Lake Leelanau (sunset view). With the three dogs. On Sunday morning, we will sleep in, then go to The Bluebird in Leland for brunch. That afternoon, we will have my college roommate (30+ years, Michigan State) over to hang out by the lake, watch the Lions opener (4:15) and grill, then a fire on the beach in the evening and a glass (or two. . .) of fine northern Michigan wines. Then off for golf at The Leelanau Club on Monday - off season, and empty.

I do wish U-M well. But, whether they win or lose, I think that week is going to be tough to beat for this State fan. I hope you enjoy the game, and This Too Shall Pass. (Not sure about Henne, though. . .)

7. Sounds like a great trip you've got planned
I've been to the Bluebird, and after having heard great things about it I was underwhelmed. The white fish wasn't anywhere near as good as I had expected it to be.

As for Henne, I'm in total agreement. I've never liked him.

3. UnBEE LEEEVable!
The wolverines would probably say they were looking forward to the Ducks. Look forward to a lower-tier bowl!

Heh, Da Dux got their hands full of the Houston Coug's at the first half--at home.

And the Domers are losing at this moment 9-0.

Sweet. Great day in college football.
