My golden doodle-bear!
OK, I know alot of people consider them mutts, since they're a cross between a poodle and an golden retriever, but she is absolutely the BEST dog I have ever known. Smart, fun, tries to eat the cats (they're not smart enough to figure out that a good swat across the nose would take care of that!), torments our miniature poodle who thinks he's special, and will swim forever if you let her!

She's in her summer swimmin' suit - normally her fur is 3-4 inches long, then she truly is my doodle-bear!

3. Wow
What a cutie. What about shedding? I know poodles don't, but goldens do a LOT!

10. It varies by dog
some doodles shed more if they have more retriever in them than poodle. If they are more poodle they shed less. I would say our Cindy is right in between. When we got her as a pup, we had to decide between her and her sister. Her sister was more retriever, with coaser fur. Cindy's hair is SOFT! It's like the softest stuffed animal.

The original doodle was bred in Australia as a guide dog for a blind woman who suffered from severe allergies to dogs. The doodle cross between poodles and labs and retrievers resulted in dogs that are very allergy-friendly, which is why we have a doodle and a poodle. My kids and I have bad allergies, but these dogs don't bother us at all.

12. She absolutely is a wonderful friend!
And she loves kids - the smaller the better. One day, she was down on the pool deck with us. The 2 year old boy up the street was outside and started to cry about something (as 2 yo.'s will do!). Her ears and head perked right up, and she went right to the gate. She wanted to go take care of that little boy and make sure he was alright.

She would absolutely never hurt anyone on purpose - except for her size, she could knock you over!

5. This "goldie mom" thinks you have a cute pup...
I, too, and curious about the shedding habits of goldie-doodles.
Toby (our 2 yr old goldie) sheds enough to make whole rugs, and does so a couple of times a year.

Glad to hear that Bear likes the water s much...
Fetch is much more fun if there is splashing involved.

11. See my posts above about shedding

Here is a pic of her as a pup, before a haircut:

She is really funny about the swimming. She'll jump and dive into the pool after her ball (but only the yellow one! She is obsessive about only playing with one particular ball in the pool), but hates to get a bath. Silly girl! And you're right about the splashing. We have to add water to our pool at least once a week from her splashing it out!

18. She is wonderful...now that she is, for the most part, out of the chewing stage...
and my forearms and shoes are very grateful for that
Labradoodles: they combine the single-minded determination of a lab with the cunning of a poodle :)

19. LOL!
Ours will still chew on anything she can get her teeth on! She has, at least, become a bit more discriminating in what she eats. Last summer, she ate the first fruits of our garden - a basket of onions, tomatoes, and hot peppers! I thought my dh was going to KILL her! :9

Now she has decided she doesn't like fresh parsley, celery and lettuce.

14. Definitely!
Although sometimes she'll sit in our other chair, which the poodle has claimed for his own, just to piss him off and get him to play!

9. She's beautiful!
After a few generations won't these designer breeds be considered purebreds?

She's very beautiful and appears to have self-assured personality, if the second picture is any indication.

20. Shhh!
I promise not to say a word, but you're right! When she got her summer cut, they just shaved her. When her hair grows in, her tail looks like a big feather with fur 3-4 inches hanging from it.
