I believe my husband has finally gone off the deep end
He has always been possessive of any car that is his. No one drives it but him, including me. No eating or drinking in his car, don't touch the windows, is that a ding???

Two days ago he sold his car and today he bought a moped.

I haven't been around much lately, so for those of you who don't know me, I'm talking about a married guy with 2 kids who just sold a paid for, four door Toyota and bought a moped.

Jinkies.

4. If only that were his motivation
As it was, his car got 40 mpg. We don't live in a climate that will allow him to ride much....we spend time below zero in the winter. He went out on it tonight and out on a sweatshirt.

2. did he get popped
for a dui? and you not know it?

I mean - a MOPED?

A scooter, maybe - but a moped usually means ONE THING - you CANT GET A DRIVERS LICENSE.

That's just totally weird, otherwise.

Did he offer any explanation?

3. Moped, scooter, what's the difference?
I suppose it's a scooter. He still has his driver's license. I make the money, he can't hide a DUI.

7. there's a big difference in a
moped and scooter.

A moped is basically a bicycle with a motor.

A scooter is a dumbed down motorcycle.

Unless the names have changed in recent years.

I prefer a roll cage between myself and the road. I know nothing about these things.

22. As the owner of both motorcyles and scooters, I see it in the opposite
light, a scooter is the more intelligent vehicle.

24. dumbed down probably wasn't the best phrase
- stripped down?

I dunno. Isn't there less "muscle"? It's more for "go" than "show" (though I think they're really cute!)

28. Well, the primary differences are that scooters are generally automatics, as
far as shifting goes, and that scooters have their engines and drives enclosed. Generally speaking, motorcycles have more "muscle" as a class, but there are also scooters with more "muscle" than loads of motorcycles.

9. Tell him
you won't leave him unless his frostbit nose turns black and falls off this winter when he's mopeding to work in subzero temps.

:) :) :) :)

Buck up. Mine has brain damage. No really. He has no short term memory and no emotions after a car accident. There's nothing funnier than him standing there with a blank look on his face while I go all loopy because he decided to store something plastic in the oven and then an hour later decide to be really nice and run the clean cycle on the oven. Getting burnt plastic smell out of upholstery and carpet is not much fun I have to tell you.

But never a boring moment!! We have much to be grateful for you and me!!

10. Oh, I should have clarified
He has no job to drive to. He wants no job to drive to. He's like a third kid to me, and he seems to going through a rebellious stage.

On the upside, maybe he's having a midlife crisis but couldn't afford a sports car, so he went the opposite direction there. This means that he should be replacing me soon with a woman twice my age, if he's consistent.

He knows it. I opened a bank account and told him about it after the fact, his name isn't on it. Now he's bitching because he can't get to any money.

Go earn some then!

Too many women I know take too much shit for the sake of the family. Whenever I hear about someone like you who stood up for herself I just get proud for women everywhere.

16. "A woman twice my age"
Now would that be so bad? Just think of all the free babysitting you'd get with him shacked up with a granny! Can you just see how nice it will be to have her come over and knit you a toaster cozy while the kids amuse themselves putting curlers in her hair?

:)

However, it would have made more sense to go and get a job...selling his car was rather drastic.

23. If you have gambling debts or something that must be paid off fast, selling the car...
is much more effective than getting a job and having your legs broken while you're waiting to earn up the money to pay with.

26. hmph
I never understood the whole obsession with cars. Seriously. If you love your car that's fine but some people take it too far. I don't want to speak for your hubby but maybe he's having that epiphany where he's not letting his possessions own him anymore.

Obsession with star trek, however, is perfectly normal and healthy :)

29. That's all well and good (and I agree with you about obsession with possessions)
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 12:05 AM by grace0418
but a married man should not make a decision/purchase like that without discussing it with his wife. ESPECIALLY if he's not earning any money for the family. And it's really stupid to buy a scooter as your only vehicle when you live somewhere that has cold winters. That affects the whole family because he's going to expect rides when it gets too cold. I would be LIVID if my husband did that, and he has a job. We discuss pretty much any purchase over $100.

30. My humble opinion.....
Get help. Your marriage may be a bit shaky right now, but can be saved. Been there, done that.
We did. At first, I wasn't willing, and she went alone. Eventually, I went along and we worked
things out. It can be done if you really and truly want to. Good luck.
