Did you run for office in grade school or high school??
And did you win?

I ran for class secretary, unopposed. And I won. And I did absolutely nothing for it except get my picture in the yearbook.

1. I ran for Student Body President and lost but the election was fixed
My mom heard a rumor from a teacher that the administration was afraid of me. I've been bitter ever since and that was back in 1982.

2. The administration fixed the election when you were a kid?
That would make me bitter too.

That would make me Karl Rove.

4. It honestly was sort of a mind blowing experience
We gave speeches before the election and I got the most applause by far.
The next day I lost so one of two things happened:
a) Lots of the kids cheering were lying
b) The Man was determined to keep us down

I honestly don't know which of those two scenarios happened and rarely think about it, except for times like when someone makes a post on a message board and jogs my memory.

9. You didn't miss anything.
I was secretary of Student Council and people called me 10 years after graduation and said it was my job to plan the 10 year reunion for 1000 people. I said I don't think so.

11. Yes, and I won
I won the fourth grade student council election against three opponents, and I was appointed to student council in 1st grade by my teacher. I guess first graders aren't supposed to have elections or something. I wish I could say that I resigned my seat on principle, but alas, I must also say that my six year old mind didn't really grasp the importance of the matter at hand :)

12. I was campaign manager for a 6th grade girl....we won.
I gathered together students to make posters and flyers and we helped her write her speech.
IIRC the theme was Take Time To Listen To Each Other. This was 1961.
It was fun.

13. In middle school I did.
I ran for one of four student council head officer positions at the end of 7th grade and I was actually elected. It turned out to be a relatively boring thing that involved getting up way too early once a week for my 8th grade mind to comprehend.

14. I ran and was elected to student council 8-10 grade
We didn't do too much because our adviser basically told us how it was going to be so any revolutionary type ideas were immediately shot down.

17. I ran 3 times lost all 3
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 09:49 PM by Hippo_Tron
I did however get elected to a position on Youth In Government State Board, which was far more fun than doing class council.

My best friend ran for class President and lost in a very close election that involved two runoffs (supposedly the first runoff was a tie vote). I was his unofficial campaign manager and so being avid West Wing fans we joked that if he won I got to put Class Chief of Staff on my college application.

18. I ran for school "Secretary Of State" in the fifth grade and won.
I had no real duties, but it made me relatively popular. Popularity was a rare thing for me when I as in school.

20. In my high-school all three languages had one club but each language had a president
and all events were held jointly. Each language elected its own president. I ran on a separatist platform and decried the French club by destroying a french flag I brought to the election speech. The french teacher stared in disbelief, the students of both other languages applauded, the teacher refused to count the votes immediately when my opponent for president asked her to, but instead said "these are going to be counted at home" The next morning the announcement came that my opponent had won, but she herself told me that I would have won if the votes had been counted honestly. Strangely enough I also got some votes from the other non-french language.
