13. Highlights and Weekly Reader did more to turn me off of reading...
than anything. They were dopey, sappy and not interesting. I wanted airplanes, rockets, boats. It wasn't until 7th grade that I got back into reading, a habit I have had ever since.

2. I had that magazine for probably ten years growing up.
This in the '90s/early '00s, too. I loved that thing. I think it's still in publication, too.

11. I used to read it too when I was a kid
I'm pretty sure I had a subscription. I used to love the hidden pictures thing and wasn't there a bear family comic too? And Timbertoes or something.

3. Heck yes, I did!
:D I was reading "Highlights" in the dentist's waiting room a few months ago, and it's changed so much - apparently Goofus & Gallant are redheads now, and they're drawn differently. Still cool, though.

7. Yes, I prefered the way that they were drawn in the 60s...
when I was a little kid, I thought that Goofus looked like Keith Richard at the time

EDIT: My favorite cartoonist, Mike Russell, occasionally draws a strip called "Mr Do and Mr Don't" which is like a grown-up version of "Goofus and Gallant." It's hilarious:

14. Best Part Of The Magazine
I wonder how many neocons ever read it. Amazing how similar Goofus and * are.
