How Time Flies: the 20th Anniversary Edition of Robocop is Out
Everyone knows and loves Robocop, the movie which set the bar (really, really high) for the maximum amount of violence you could possibly put in a movie. I mean, seriously guys, how can someone NOT love a movie in which a character with a speaking part gets whacked in the first five minutes? (OTOH, how the ED-209 managed to shoot clear through Mr. Kenney and not break the glass behind him is still a mystery...as in why they'd load its guns for a demonstration in the first place.)

Yes, folks, the movie you always wondered why in hell people brought their kids to is celebrating its 20th anniversary this very year!

1. "I'll buy that for a dollar!"
Sadly, much of its satire is still relevant today.

"Military contracts, spare parts for the next 25 years. The profits would have been great. Who cares if it worked or not?"

6. Those scenes are so stupid they're hysterically funny.
Also when Clarence Boddicker shows up and puts a gun to Bob Morton's head and throws the two models out, one of them turns to Morton and asks "You gonna call me?"

Uh, no I don't think he will.

8. "Bitches, leave"
So many great lines from ol' Clarence.

My favorite is - "Can you fly, Bobby?"

9. Much of its satire is even more relevant today
In 1987, Halliburton was an oilfield services company.

Imagine George W. Bush as the Old Man, Cheney as Dick Jones, Robert Gates as Bob Morton...

Kids today won't get the part about the Video CD player Bob Morton had--the one Clarence Boddicker used to play Dick Jones' taunting of Bob Morton before he was blown up. These days you can buy DVD burners for fifty to sixty dollars, but in 1987 CD burners (no DVDs at all) were almost unheard of. You certainly couldn't put one IN your computer.

3. My roommate just bought it
and he mentioned that he can't watch That 70's Show without seeing his character in Robocop.

I, of course, pointed out that the character in Robocop is less of an asshole than Red most of the time. :)

5. 20th anniversary?!?
Okay, so that means I'm old.

And I really loved the ED-209. Which makes me an old geek. Hmmmm.

Of course I was only 9-10 at the time. I think my mom or dad took me.
