8. Is that Onslow County?
I remember The New River from our four years spent in J-Ville during Mr Gen's Marine Corp days.

Cleaned up the yard, took the dogs to run, went out to eat a lot, watched movies.

Glad that Lisa's family was so welcoming to you.

12. Various things...
Saturday- Had my son for the day, so I went to Mom and Dads for some immediate family visitation.

Sunday- Went down to New Orleans with my partner and 2 friends for Southern Decadence. I was only mildly decadent, though one of our group got a little wild. The crowds are still kind of lacking compared to past years, but it's still good for the hotels, restaurants, bars, etc...

Monday- Recovery day. Slept kind of late and just putted around the house. Did some grilling in the afternoon and watched some movies.

18. He did say yes
I posted this yesterday -

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x6894441

- and when he got home, I brought up the subject. Which shocked the hell out of him because he never expected it from me (he figured he'd be proposing to me until we died and I'd be saying "no" every time).

So, yeah, I guess I'm gettin' hitched. Nothing fancy - we're going to fly my best friend out from Vermont to perform the ceremony and get just a few friends together at our favorite camping place in the wilderness. Probably in February when we always go.

I'm absolutely astonished at myself. :wow:

great weather here Sunday morning for a run, nice and cool. Not many idiots on the road either, I guess they were out of town. But I did see some deer and racoons.

17. Meh.
It was hotter than Hades here all weekend (105ish), so our beach plans were mostly thwarted.

Spent the weekend laying around, trying to keep somewhat cool since the a/c absolutely could not keep up.

Did end up going to the beach Sunday NIGHT...that was actually really, really fun.

But mostly it was uneventful.

20. Visitied Dad and Stepmom in Wilmington, NC
beach, dinner on the Cape Fear River, letting the Grandparents have LOTS of quality time with the kids. My 7 yo daughter ran a fever of 103 and my 9yo son is getting a head start on adolescent defiance....However, my 1 yo Daughter is starting her "oh my God, is she the cutest thing you've ever seen?" phase, with her starting to walk, many many laughs and smiles and picking up new vocabulary every day....

Then, late Sunday, the drive back to DC and Monday spent getting ready for the first day of school.

31. I built parts for a tracking mount for my telescope.
I have a 12.5" (mirror diameter) Newtonian reflector that moves up and down like a see-saw and left and right on a rotating lazy susan.
http://www.discovery-telescopes.com/discovery/td.html

It needs to be guided by hand pretty much continuously since stars move diagonally. This thing I'm building is a short (6 or 8") table that will automatically track for about an hour.

It came as a kit with all the hardware and a set of really shitty instructions. I had to supply the wooden parts and cut them to size.

33. I got 2 (count 'em - TWO) IBTLs in BTLs!

In real life it was a vehicle disaster weekend. Flat and ruined tire in the "good" truck, starter dead in the big van and another flat in the only-ranch-roads truck. I hate motor vehicles.

I could tell they were going to go and actually made it in. Usually I don't even see them and if I do, they get locked before I can get in on my slow dial up.
