Who fucking cares?

Christ, it's not like it's a reflection on one's geographic birthplace or living place or anything else.

To anyone who finds your sense of value on whether "your" "team" wins - I'm sorry to hear that.

To anyone who gets embarrassed or feels ashamed when the "team" from your geographic region loses - I'm sorry to hear that.

Sonofabitch, I get sick of it.

"Our team beat your team, hah hah, our city (or state or country or school) is better than yours!"

No, jackass - your TEAM is better than THAT team, in that one game; and that team is NOT "mine", no matter how close to that team's stadium I live (unless the theoretical person lives in Green Bay and actually is a co-owner of a team).

Fucking Christ on a donut, already.

Fuck.

Give it up.

Fucking tribalistic asshole nonsense.

(and no, this isn't specifically about those two teams or their fans, nor anyone who is currently elated/deflated about a specific game's ending - it's a general rant inspired by a specific event)

3. I've never understood that
I mean, its not like the players are from the area - they go to whatever team wants to pay them. And they switch around so you can be rooting for this guy one year and the next year, he's playing for your bitter enemy and you hate him.

Very strange. I'd be delighted if someone could explain it to me.

9. Mutual convenience
I honestly don't understand the intricacies of scheduling college football games but apparently both schools had an open date this weekend. Michigan wanted a respectable opponent and offered the Apps a ton of money to go up to Ann Arbor.

Otherwise, no, I really wouldn't care.

My sense of self-worth comes from within.

41. It is one of the only forms of tribalism that doesn't have far reaching ill effects.
I can be loyal to the Redskins, and follow them regardless of how they do without, say, Joe Gibbs invading a country without cause. Granted, large riots after sporting events are ill effects, I suppose, but not as far reaching as other forms of tribalism.

I am someone, however, who doesn't believe that I am better if they win, or worse if they lose, or that I have anything to do with it. Whatever team you are a fan of is mainly because of where you are from. I realize that if I was born in Dallas, I would most likely be a Cowboy fan.

I think it is the only place where blind loyalty carries any merit. Tribalism has gotten it's dirty little hands on everything to politics, religion, business, nationalism, to rivaling neighbors. It's all the way for someone to say "I am better than you", or "My group is better than your group". It seems to have a part in almost everything.

As far as the App State thing, I think a good deal of the hoopla was such an underdog coming through and winning something. People look at it as an allegory to life, that the underdog can triumph, with hard work and dedication. Of course, sometimes, this can lead to delusions, but I think they are somewhat healthier than religious or political delusion.

The loyalty of Republicans to Bush has led to disaster for the Republican party, but more importantly, the nation and the world. Many folks have died over it. We see all the time what religious fanatics can do, and religion also had a role with the Bush loyalists.

Of course, my sister is a Skins fan, but she is also Republican and watches Fox news too much. I find that, during the game, she always thinks the refs are against the Skins and that the other team is cheating, where I think sometimes the refs are crappy, and sometimes the other team makes dirty hits, etc, but...not all the time. Funny enough, football is not the only subject she thinks this way about.

Anyway, I have gone on entirely too long on this. I thought the Boise State win over Oklahoma was much more exciting. :)

I should have specified I meant sports in general on the riot comment. Seems like it is usually over basketball or soccer.
