Also, I never understood the rah-rah "YAY I CAN BLEED MONTHLY!" excitement some women get/put onto their daughters when their daughters reach menarche. There really, truly isn't much great about bleeding from a hole between your legs for a week every month or so. So it makes you a "woman." So what? Menstruation in no way ought to be demonized--it's not like we can help it, after all--but I don't think it's anything much to celebrate, either.

Fortunately, when I started bleeding, my mother didn't try that baloney on me; all she said was, "You know what this means, right?" I knew what she was getting at right off the bat.

"I can really, truly get pregnant and incubate a child?"

"Right. So please don't go around trying."

"Okay, Mom."

My mother didn't do it, either, thankfully, but I had a friend whose mom not only gushed about how she "was a woman now!" but also made her "go tell your father!" :eyes:
