I was just given five old computers.
For a computer repair geek, that's like Christmas! It's the equivalent of five boxes full of computer repair parts- hard drives, memory chips, power supplies, fans, cases, cables... it's freakin' great!

My mission is to rebuild at least two computers from them so I can give them to this local preschool I do computer stuff for. Gotta have game machines for the li'l tykes!

Occasionally this job is really, really fun.

1. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six...
Good for you!

And how terrific it is that you love working with these machines too!

I know the li'l tykes will be soooooo happy with their new machines...

We all have to have fun in our lives, especially at work!

My wife is constantly nagging me to get rid of all the old boxes I have. Every once in a while though I come across a kid that really needs one and it sure is great to be able to pull the parts and make him something that works :)

Nice score hope the kids enjoy banging on em !

3. Nifty.
I'm about to cannibalize some parts from my old computers to make a mini-fridge.

Well, sort of. :) I just need the power supply and the fans. And it's not so much a mini-fridge as something to keep the right temperature for the mead I'm brewing so as to let it age properly. I bought a big rubbermaid bin that should hold a few gallon jugs. It will only be about 10 degrees colder than my apartment, so I figure it doesn't need anything too heavy duty. I'm just gonna use some peltier plates hooked up to the computer power supply, and use one of the cpu fans to blow the air over it. All I need now is some heat syncs for the peltier plates. And a thermostat of some sort to tell it when to turn on and off.
