1. Since he's been dead for ~25 years, I would say no.

2. saw him one night @ Grand Ole Opry, he came on last of the evening
and he was rocking! Sat down to the piano, started playing and singing and would not stop, just kept on going. The Grand Ole Gospel Hour was set to come on at 11:pm and they couldn't get Marty off the stage so the Gospel Hour could start. Finally they shut down his mikes so the other show could start broadcasting. This was probably 30 years ago, maybe 35. It was in the old Ryman before the new Opry House was built

3. Great story!!
Thanks for sharing. El Paso was a single of my Dad's I played over and over when I was a kid. Later on in life, I really look into Robbins beyond the county/gunfighter stuff. I like him.

True story. My conservative Mom was harping against violent rap lyrics at dinner in the early 90s and I recited her the back end of El Paso and its 2 deaths, reminding here the reason I knew it by heart was that I listened to it litterally hundredsof times between age 6-10.

:hi:

4. radio station my mom listened to in the a.m. played "El Paso' every day
at the same damn time, with out fail. I woke up to that song every day of my life for like 11 or 12 years. It was my last chance to get up and dressed in time to catch the bus for school, when that song came on. For years I hated it, but still liked Marty.

5. I like The Who's song about him
"God Speaks of Marty Robbins" from Endless Wire. It's a very pretty acoustic piece.
