I feel just like Fletch when he was being examined for his supposed kidney problem : "Thank ya, doc! Ever serve time?"

This had better be worth it. When my son starts dating in a few years he'd better be a total babe magnet or there's gonna be hell to pay.

So are braces really so freaking hard to install????? Ouch!

1. We just finished paying up on my daughter's braces...I feel freed.
It is nice to walk in and not have to zip off a check anymore. Her's ended up being $4200. Way too much in my opinion. I feel your pain. And then she complains about them all the time...it's a lose/lose situation I tell ya. :hi:

4. Gruesome braces story..
a friend of mine had a party for her "got my braces off day".. She chose a skating party.. about an hour into it, she fell and BROKE HER TWO FRONT TEETH..

I can still hear the sound that came out of her mother when she saw Brenda get up holding her mouth...and then the even worse sound when she saw those two broken teeth..

This was way before the nifty bonding that they can do now.. :(

Needless to say, the party was OVER :(

7. Oh My!
That's so sad, but I had to laugh a little. Gee, the things life throws our way sometimes.

6. Wow, $4200??? No wonder you're Grumpy!
That's just outrageous . . . I simply cannot believe that the difficulty of the procedure justifies such costs.

How old's your daughter, if I may ask?

9. She is almost 14. The braces were put on when she was 10. She
has an overbite, small jawline, and impoper alignment. We basically hit the triple when it comes to hardware. sigh...All I can see that they do is band changes and something to do with power chains. It seems to much to me as well. :hi:

10. Our daughter gets her's off in a week or so--after almost 4 years..
Same overbite problem etc...But the price doesn't increase by the number of years, the Orthodontist sets the price at the begining and it doesn't go up if braces stay on longer.

To make matter worse we already have daughter #2 in braces also. I think daughter #3 will be OK,plenty of cavities but I doubt that she'll need braces.

Funny, nowdays its not the big stigma it was when I grew up (metal mouth, railroad teeth),in fact braces are considered *cool* now. How things change....

11. That's how ours are too. One price, tabulated at the beginning,
taking into consideration all the junk that they think she needs. :hi:

2. Be glad you have the $$$
There are a LOT of people, many right here on DU, who can't afford *necessary* medical attention.

Some will die without it. Be glad you aren't in that column.

8. Been there
One medical problems and had to have them or so they said. 6 years or them. One took them off him self with pliers, so mush for that and another one, dentist said, oh they will get even them selfs. We believed him and they did. My take on it, that all teeth are not just right so if they are not to bad for get it. Re-call I said I had one girl in them for 6 long years with cash us front and money every month. One good thing is the Navy paid for some of the cash up front as it was a medical problem.
