These car posts.... Did you ever name your car?
We called my Mom's 70 Toyota Corona 'Wanda Jean' for some reason.

My friends 59 Bel Air was 'Eunice'

A 67 volkswagon was 'Abby'.

How we came up with these and why I don't remember, but we sure know what we're talking about when someone brings up that name.

1. Lazarus -- it always came back from the dead.
My parents always named cars. We never spoke of the model of the car, they all were referred to by name.

5. Yes, I use to have a toyota celica in college. It was an ugly brown
but, being a dedicated, travelling "Dead Head", Her name was "Stella Brown" after the song "Stella Blue" for all of you who weren't familiar with the Dead.

6. ours was
just called the bug.

My Dad had one of those hand held stamping gadgets that he could punch words into and end up with a length of sticker tape with a message on it.

He made one that said "Jean: Slow Down" and stuck it on the dashboard above the speedometer.

7. My '56 Beetle was "Vee-Dub"
When my older sister had it, it was called the "Yellow Submarine". That's because it was 1966 when she got it, that song had just come out, and my father had painted it yellow for her.

15. My first car was a 1984 Buick Skyhawk...
The thing was so ghetto that the bottom was rusting out and whenever I had people in the back seat and went over a bump the underside would spark.

In it's dear old age the letter "U" fell off the trunk where Buick put it's endorsement and from that day on it was called "The Bick"

My current car, a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am (quality, I tell you, quality) doesn't have an official name. However, it's at least once a day where I am sitting in traffic saying out loud "baby, don't stall now...baby, please keep going" so I would have to say that her name is "Baby"

16. I always name my cars!
My old Land Cruiser was Peggy Sue because after I bought her I heard that song about a million times. My last truck was Monster named by one of my sons friends, she was without a muffler and she roared. This truck is a big diesel and she purrs. I happened to be listening to a Dave Matthews CD and in the song Rapunzel he makes a noise similar so I have named her Rapunzel. I have forgotten the names of my others. My first, a HUGE 1960 Mercury Monterey, used, rusted, no power anything and an embarrassment at a high school full of sports cars was Gert.

19. I forgot our most famous one - The BOMB
it was a 62 Ford Fairlane that stalled quite often at stops signs etc..

We got the point where we got good at hopping in and out of that piece of crap while it was still moving (very slowly of course- but still).

26. My 1980 Volare was called "The Aluminum Pelican"
It's a long story, an' I wrote a poem about it for a poetry class in college.
Even got me an "A" on the poem.

I couldn't call it what I wanted to; George Lucas would sue me!

29. Always
My first car, a '69 Chevy Impala large enough to land fighter jets on its hood, was named "Impie Biggs," which fans of Dorothy Sayers' mysteries will understand.

The second one was a tiny gray '78 Dodge Omni known as The Tuna Can.

The third was an '87 Dodge Shadow the color of a McDonald's chocolate shake, so I called it The Milkshake.

After The Milkshake was killed in an accident, I bought a gray '90 Dodge Spirit, which I nicknamed The Gray Ghost.

I didn't have a car at all between October 1993 and August 2003.

In August 2003, I moved back to Minneapolis and took over my mother's second car, a red Plymouth Acclaim. Depending on my mood, I call it either The Red Rover or the The Red Menace.

31. My father owned a Rambler station wagon called The Wreck
It really was a wreck too. The tailgate and two doors were different colors because he got the parts at a junkyard. I was embarrassed to be in that car. The kids at school called it the Beverly Hillbillies car.
