3. What years were the smurfs popular? Everyone had little dolls with fuzzy hair!
Were they on television? In the movies?

I'm just too busy to do the research, so if you have any links, I'd welcome them.

Thanks again...............

35. They were big in the '80s
around 1982-86 or so. I used to watch the show when I was a kid. My little brother had about two dozen Smurf figurines.

My cleaning man broke the bottom part of this ceramic soap dish a few months ago, so all I have is the top and this photo.

16. Thanks, ChimpsRSmarter! I don't remember the characters at all, but
by the early 1980s, all my kids were living somewhere else and we were a very busy couple with our two careers.

Appreciate your comments!

Good night and good luck.

18. did they release the Smurfs on DVD yet?
last time i looked it wasn't?

Dude I loved the smurfs as a kid. Even Azreael the cat. I felt sorry for her to be living with Gargamel.

As pointed out in DD: Smurfette was created by Gargamel to corrupt the Smurfs, but the overwhelming goodness of the smurf way of life won Smurfette over. (i think Papa Smurf had something to do with that)

But did they have little reproductive organs under those little white pants?

In June 2006 Warner Bros joined a chat hosted by the Home Theater Forum to talk about their products, and answer questions from HTF members. Paul Miller asked about The Smurfs, and got a positive response:

Paul Miller: As a fan of 80s cartoons, is there any chance of The Smurfs coming to DVD anytime soon?

WARNER BROS: We are working on The Smurfs and hope to release it in 2007.

Ikhor (Ichor)

The blood of the Immortals; in The Iliad (book 5, line 340) Aphrodite (goddess of Love) is wounded on the battlefield by the Greek warrior, Diomedes, and ikhor poured darkly on her perfect skin.

27. yep thats it
Usually you see it as "ichor" but in some of the old books it is spelled "ikhor." I guess it's an archaic version of ichor. I just think the k looks "cooler", hehe.

Nice to meet you too. I think I might have to go see 3:10 to Yuma after reading your review.

28. If you go see 3:10 to Yuma, does that mean I have to read the ILIAD again???
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 12:37 AM by Radio_Lady
Whoa! A couple of tomes, they are, the Iliad and the Odyssey -- I remember them, well -- not too much. However, I did get good grades in Classics 101, U.C.L.A. Theatre Arts Department 1959/1960. I don't remember the professor's name, but I had a BIG crush on the Introduction to Film professor Rudy Bretz who wrote the textbook used in those classes. What a great guy -- I learned a lot from him and can still see his wonderful smile in my mind! He took me out to the beach one night and I saw the grunion run. Do you know what that is? If not, check it out at: http://arachnid.pepperdine.edu/grunion/when.htm

Rudy left U.C.L.A. years later and then worked for the Rand Corporation. His family put up a website to commemorate him after he passed away.

Say, my husband and I went to Greece a few years ago. Does that count? The Parthenon was gorgeous -- we stayed in Athens a few days and then toured some of the islands of the Aegean Sea in the month of October! We have some excellent memories and a big book of photos of that ancient country. I thought of Aeschylus, Euripides, Pericles, Socrates, Plato, and Geronimo (Geronimo??? Now, that's VERY wrong!)

Have a wonderful week and happy Hallowe'en -- when we get there!

Sincerely,

Radio Lady Ellen in Oregon

39. that looks like it would be fun to watch
...the Grunion run. I am always outdoors by the river watching turtles or fishing.

I have never been to Greece but it looks like a fantastic place to travel to. One of my friends went there for a month long vacation, and he brought back a whole bunch of pictures. (and ouzo) I wish I could have gone with him.

Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 08:57 PM by Radio_Lady
There were TWO FEMALES that DUers found and posted -- Smurfette and Sassette.

Wikipedia has them all.

Thanks for posting -- "Learn something new every day here at the DU. Sometimes you learn two (things)."

37. not true
First of all, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamel's evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario, it just couldn't happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have... reproductive organs under those little, white pants.

It's just so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. You know, what's the point of living... if you don't have a dick?

Or was it advice that was counter to my own ideas?

Why this difficult response on this particular night? Is this a leftover from some other saga? Was it something I said or did to you? If so, I truly apologize.

Good night, Chicagoland, and your skunky

and your birdy, too!

36. I must quote this
"First of all, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette. She was sent in as Gargamel's evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. (It's true. Smurfette was evil at first.)
