4. OMG!! My son turns 17 in a couple of months

:scared:

He's already seen R-rated movies, at least on video. Plus we took him to see Jumanji on the big screen when he was five. He made it through it, but was quivering through most of it!

:scared:

6. I'm trying to remember ages that were important to me back then.
I turned 17 in 1958.
ANCIENT!

I guess 12 for full fare into movies was my first biggie.
That was like my bar mitvah.
For my 12th birthday I spent the whole day going to movies in downtown Birmingham and paying for an 'adult' ticket.
"Today...I yam...a MAN!"
I was SO proud.

Back then there was no rating system for movies because there was nothing 'objectionable' in them. There was the League of Catholic Decency and Hollywood's Hayes office to make sure we didn't see any prurient 'filth'.

Then the 'Hayes office' (look it up...movie censorship) of the 30s and 40s kind of phased out.
And, somehow the Catholics lost their clout.

There was a 1953 movie, "The Moon is Blue" which was considered to be 'scandalous' because it was the first post-Hayes mainstream Hollywood film to use the word "virgin," after a battle with the official and unofficial censors. Also the first use of "seduce" and "mistress" (as a sexual partner).
Woo. Hoo.
;-)

16 was the biggie for driving.
18, I guess, because us guys had to register for the draft.
21 definitely for legal drinking.

After 21, there weren't much of any age related milestones.
At 30, I thought I was actually a grownup, even though (in reality) I was still a few years shy of it.

At 50, I thought "Dude, you sure ain't a kid anymore."

At 60 I thought "60. Hunh. Didn't really think I'd make it this far. Not given all the helling around I'd done in my 20s."

At 65 I thought "MEDICARE? ME? MEDICARE? jeez. GEEZER!"

Anyway, have fun at the 'R' rated movies, but don't lose your head.
:-)

From what I've seen you do and say you're already wise beyond your years.

All the best.
Picked a college yet?

7. holy crap, you're deeper in the archeolgical dig than I am.
thanks, I feel so young and spritely . ;)

congrats, Ava.
but seriously, you aren't missing all that much in that movie thing. There's only about 8 real plots in everyone of them, just adding expletives or a bit of skin doesn't add much at all.

So to speak.

Be sure to pick good R movies, not just any old R movie.

14. I saw my first R-rated movie when I was 11 (in 1982!).
It was "The World According to Garp" with Robin Williams and Glenn Close. I went with my mom and one of our closest family friends. I can't remember the movie, though.

What R-rated movie will Ava choose? Stay tuned! ;) :loveya:

15. lol, i think everyone sees an r movie before 17
whenever i go to big cities that have big chain theaters they always card which sucks. luckily i live in a small town with a small independent theater so they don't card

yup, they wouldn't let me see fahrenheit 9/11 when i went to see it in montgomery so my mom had to go with me so i could see it, lol.

26. why i'm feeling freakin' old right now... :)
because you're only a few months older than my little sister, and I changed her diapers when she was little.

Of course, about a year and a half ago when she was turning 15, my brother and I were both complaining about the fact that she was growing up WITHOUT our express permission, and at the same time we said, "We changed your diapers!" to her. She responded by saying, "Ha ha... suckers!" :P

28. Do you get your driver's license?
I've been 17 for a while, but still haven't taken my driver's test, because I've got a car that smells like it's on fire whenever it goes over 30 mph or so and we still haven't gotten around to getting it to a mechanic.
