http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=6996453#7001779Long story short: I'm a trucker. There was a guy at work who thought he was about to take a route because another guy gave it up and took a floater position which is what the first guy does. I had more seniority than him, but I had been telling people that I was happy working in the truck yard moving trailers around. Well, I changed my mind and took the route instead. It pays $250 more a week than I am currently making which is big money to me. The guy who also wanted the route was very upset and told me so. He thought he was going to get stuck with my yard position and he wouldn't do that because he would only see his kids on the weekends.
Flash forward to Friday. Another guy who was running a different route and had more seniority than both me and the guy who was upset with me suddenly turned up missing in action on Wednesday. At our employer 3 no-call-no-shows = fired. So the guy is history unless our employer makes an exception which I doubt because I know what is going on with the guy who missing in action- and I'm the only one who knows that. It's been a closely guarded secret since January. I have no idea why the guy told me what was happening. I was new to the job and nobody really knew me then. He just opened up in a case of "truck driver confessional."
Anyway, what all that means is that the guy who originally gave up the run will get the fired guy's route. I will get that guy's route. And the guy who was upset with me will be able to retain his 3rd shift floater position which was working really well for him.
The timing makes me want to believe in supernatural forces.
