My roommate just lit the kitchen on fire
No kidding. Another one of my roommates likes to put his pizza boxes in the oven and let them simmer on lukewarm for awhile. Well, I guess this time he forgot he left it in there, and my other roommate turned the oven on to preheat it without looking inside first, and viola! Fire!

We put it out but there are several large burn stains on the floor. The landlord is gonna be pissed.

I'm just glad I had nothing to do with it.

3. Make the roomie pay for it.
Since it was his doing, he should replace it.

4. Oh hells yeah
No way I'm paying for this. Actually, he's about to move out anyway, so this whole thing is kind of weird that it happened now. I think he can kiss his security deposit goodbye. It sucks though, it really was just an unfortunate set of circumstances that could have happened to anybody.

5. I know. Happened to my brother some years ago.
He was making fries, and left the kitchen for a second. The grease caught fire, and burned the wall and ceiling by the stove.

12. My mother did that once
She was visiting me, and heard that my MIL - aka "Ms Anal" - was coming over, so she threw everything in the oven to hide it: mail, half-empty potato chip bags, dirty dishes, etc. Later, my mom forgot she'd used the oven as a hiding place, and turned it on to pre-heat. Flames ensued. Fortunately my MIL had already left, or that would have been really embarrassing.

BTW, if you don't have a fire extinguisher handy, baking soda will put out a small fire. Helpful to know.

13. I always hide loaded handguns in the oven.
The bad guys would never think to look there, so what could possibly go wrong?

Seriously, your roommate should have learned a very valuable lesson today. Always look in the oven before heating it and never place anything flammable on the range top.

Regards, Mugu

14. Kitchen rule #1. ALWAYS LOOK BEFORE YOU LIGHT.
NEVER turn the oven on until you make SURE it's empty.

16. I had a roommate set our couch on fire once and it involved pizza too!
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 05:50 PM by Tripper11
He got home late one night all pissed up and had ordered a pizza. I woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of heavy smoke. He was passed out on the couch with the pizza box on his lap, half eaten and a massive charcoal hole in our couch with embers just glowing away!
He was out the next day! Fuck that!
