Will you guys stop in and say hi? I thought I'd be able to go to work this morning, but I'm spending a lot of time in the WC. Will you guys entertain and talk to me? Thanks!!

2. Hi, I did that a couple of weeks ago.
Only I had the pill prep instead of the liquid. It wasn't as horrendous as I thought it would be (I actually slept through the night that night), and the procedure itself was a piece of cake. I sort of remember the doctor telling me to turn on my side, and the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room eating Jello. It was a bit disappointing, as I had wanted to watch my innards on TV. Anyway, I spent the rest of the day in a very pleasant haze on my couch with my cats and a book which I dipped into between naps. I will say, however, that I never want to see a glass of ginger ale again! Good luck - it'll be over before you know it!

4. Next time I'm refusing to do it if they don't let me do the pill prep
that liquid is so disgusting

5. I'm doing both....
Magnesium Citrate and 8 pills....
Then all I can eat today is Jello and drink clear liquids. It's not that bad...I was just up most of the night.

8. I insisted on it.
A tale of the olden days: When I was very young, before they routinely scoped people, I had to have a barium enema. The prep for that was multiple enemas (4 hours apart as I recall). The last one had to be given the morning of the procedure, and my mother didn't wait long enough for the water to warm up before she mixed it. Now THAT was an unpleasant prep experience! (And possibly TMI as well!)

Anyway, I told my gastroenterologist in no uncertain terms that I wanted the pills. Apparently, you can have them as long as your kidneys are in good shape, as there is a risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. I had to promise to drink several liters of ginger ale with it (to provide sodium) - hence my current distaste for ginger ale.

3. if you were able to go to work I'd be astounded
Trust me when I say this is the worst part of the whole process. Ugh. That and drinking that gallon of ever so aptly named "Go Lytely"

6. I'm not drinking that thank good ness....
8 pills and a bottle of magnesium citrate.
And then I just eat jello and drink white grape juice. It's not so bad yet.... The bad part is this evening....but I won't go TMI on ya.

21. But don't you have to drink that vile Phoso-soda?
If not, then great. Are the pills taking place of that stuff?
Anyway just remember... this too shall pass as they say. I did this 2 years ago. You have my sympathy.

7. Sounds like you've been through the worst already.
The procedure itself is so simple. If you spent the night in the bathroom...the worst is over! Good luck!

9. I hope they gave you MoviPrep instead of Colyte
only because it's only half the amount of liquid to drink. You'll still spend the better part of the next 8 hours in the bathroom. I think the cleansing part actually offers some health benefits of its own - gives your entire GI tract a "fresh start."

30. Is that the stuff that the LIE about and call "lemon lime"?
When really it just tastes like overly carbonated crap-in-a-bottle? (My upper GI was more than a decade ago, so I forget.)

Anyway, best to you--hope everything "comes out okay". My mom just had her yearly colonoscopy, which is also something I have to look forward to in the future, as colon cancer runs in our family. :scared:

11. Drink real fast while holding your nose
No fun drinking that stuff.

Then, you can get the enema going, and put on some fast dance music and see how long you can go ...

It's cheap entertainment.

When it's over, there's a great thread in the Lounge about biscuits and gravy. Mmmmm, breakfast!

:hi:

14. One piece of advice:
with all the wiping that will come with the prep, I recommend you use baby wipes or, even better, just hold your heiny over the edge off the tub and hose yourself off with the shower attachment. :)

TP-induced raw, chapped ass is NO fun!

It's gross, but you will be fine. Make sure that they are giving you both a pain med and knock out drug. I was a happy camper during my exam, even with a 5' long hose up my butt! :D

15. Compared to today, tomorrow will be a breeze
I drank the prep with frozen lime bars - a drink of prep, a bite of lime bar. Of course the reflux from all those lime bars was no good.

Lots of sympathy from here.

26. Read recently where colonoscopies are soon going to be done by MRI or ultra
sound (forgot which) instead of the current method. Can't be too soon for me. That prep is a bummer.
Good luck tomorrow. p

16. Hope you are okay..
My bowel prep, before the hysterectomy I had, was brutal. Won't go into the graphic details. I'll just say this... I told my husband if I ever need surgery again, it better be emergency surgery, because I am not going through that again!! It probably didn't help that I neglected to wean myself off of caffeine throughout the week before and stopped drinking coffee - cold turkey - the morning of the bowel prep. NOT the smartest thing to do!

17. Make sure you're not so drugged up that you can't watch
It's absolutely fascinating especially if the doctor is into narration. And for the price they ought to give you a DVD.

18. I watched my first one
While my Doc was burning off a polyp, I quipped, "careful, I get my best ideas from just that spot."

I was completely out for the last one I had...not nearly as much fun. You wanna have it so you're out while they shove the thing in, and awake while they bring it on out....it is interesting to watch. I remember seeing little specks of lemon jell-o.......

19. The worst thing is not eating for over 24 hours!
By the time the colonoscopy occurred, I was quite cranky and snippy -- watching my husband, Cathandler, eat in front of me!

20. Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that part.
I almost murdered my husband the night of my prep. He decided that since I wasn't having dinner, he'd get takeout. He got a big huge yummy-looking baked ziti, dripping with cheese and tomato sauce, and ate it within my line of sight. The cad!

22. I had one about a month ago
It wasn't too bad. I was awake for part of it, so I got to watch it on the screen. They found one polyp and a small chicken bone.(????) The Colyte really sucked though. It's worse than drinking Alka Seltzer. And I had to get up at 4 in the morning to drink a bunch of it the day of the procedure. I have to get another one in 5 years - I hope they're making better Colyte by then.

23. The prep is really the worst part!
I had to do the drink a gallon of mix thing and now I can't drink lemonade since that's the flavor I used :(

Hope the rest of it goes well for you, enjoy the nap during the procedure :D
