2007 sucks! (a rant/shameless plea for Lounge vibes)

Everything was going OK for a while, and I know that I am still extremely fortunate, but lately there have just been a lot of things going wrong.

Breakdown of my year so far:
- January - my grandmother is diagnosed with uterine cancer.
- February - one of my friends is killed in Iraq.
- March - my mother is diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
- April - my mother has surgery to remove her thyroid; VTech massacre happens (I didn't know any of the victims, but I do have a lot of friends at Tech who were affected).
- May - mostly OK.
- June - mostly OK.
- July - I have to miss my cousin's wedding and a family vacation at the beach because of work; my little brother does something really stupid that has the potential to negatively impact the rest of his life, and family relations become more strained as a result.
- August - my mother goes on a low-iodine diet to prepare for radioactive iodine treatment; continued fallout/stress from my brother's actions.
- September - my mother successfully undergoes radioactive iodine treatment (thank goodness!).
- October - my little brother loses driving privileges (and his vehicle is sold) due to continued irresponsible behavior; my father and brother continue to have strained relations, eventually resulting in a huge fistfight; my mother goes to the doctor after experiencing pain in her side and an examination reveals a softball-sized mass in her abdomen.

As of today, we're still waiting to hear about the mass - from what my dad told me, I gathered that the doctors seem fairly optimistic about it, since it is relatively soft(?). I'm still pretty stressed out, though - I love my mom so much, we have a really great relationship, and it scares the shit out of me that this is even happening to her. She's been through so much already, and it just doesn't seem fair to me. :( Of course, it could be nothing (which is what I'm sincerely hoping for), but I just don't know. Any thoughts, prayers, good vibes, etc. that you could send our way would be much appreciated - my family is going through a tough time right now, and we could really use any emotional support you can spare. Try not to think about everything at once. I know this is easier said than done.
