Could someone explain the ending of the movie "Broken Flowers"?
Did his neighbor send the letter? Did Bill Murray send it? Did the girlfriend who left him send it? Does it matter and was it just one of those movies with an imbiguous ending?

1. The letter is a macguffin
Its purpose is to get him to confront his long, lonely history of all-but-meaningless love affairs and to discover and face the impact, if any, that his behavior has had on the women he's known.

Haven't seen it in quite a while, though, so I may be missing something.

5. I thought it was OK, but...
by the time I saw it, I was getting a little sick of the Bill-Murray-as-poignant-yet-funny-Everyman-with-a-wounded-soul. I want the Caddyshack Bill Murray. The Groundhog Day Bill Murray. Hell, I'll even take the Man Who Knew Too Little Bill Murray. But the Bill Murray that's in, like, every Wes Anderson movie, along with Broken Flowers and Lost in Translation, has really gotten tiring.

6. I have a rather bizarre adoration of Bill Murray in just about any incarnation
I've always felt that most funny people are hiding pain with their humor and because of that I don't think it's a coincidence that sometimes comedians are very effective in dramatic roles

7. I'm a huge Murray fan myself.
I just want him to, you know, maybe do something funny sometimes. And I'm talking roll-in-the-aisles funny, not "wistful funny."

3. That's one of my favorite Jarmusch films.
I don't think it matters who sent the letter; it snapped Don out of a long stasis and was a catalyst for (what seemed to me to be) both internal and external journeys. I love this film.
