(Sports Network) -

Curt Schilling tries to extend the season for the Boston Red Sox this evening and force a decisive seventh game against the Cleveland Indians, as Game 6 of the American League Championship Series shifts back to Fenway Park.

Schilling, though, was roughed up by the Indians in Game 2, allowing five runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings of his team's 13-6 loss. Of course, his last start in a Game 6 of an ALCS came in 2004, when with a bloody, sore ankle he tossed a one-run, four-hit gem against the New York Yankees to get his team to a seventh game along the way to Boston's first World Series title since 1918.

Despite his poor outing earlier in this series, the 40-year-old right-hander still brings a 9-2 postseason record with a 2.23 earned run average into tonight's contest.

Boston stayed alive on Thursday, as Josh Beckett struck out 11 over eight dominating innings to help the Red Sox stave off elimination with a 7-1 win at Jacobs Field.

Kevin Youkilis homered and drove in three runs for the Red Sox, who rallied back from a three games to none deficit back in 2004. Manny Ramirez ended 2- for-4 with an RBI and David Ortiz drove in two runs for Boston, which got another huge effort from its ace.

Ramirez and Ortiz have combined to go 22-for-47 (.468) this postseason with seven home runs and 18 RBI.

Beckett (3-0) allowed one run on five hits, walking just one, to win for the second time this series. The right-hander also pitched the Red Sox to a win in Game 1, Boston's only other victory in this best-of-seven series.

Grady Sizemore had two hits and scored a run for the Indians, who failed to clinch their first AL pennant since 1997.

Cleveland ace C.C. Sabathia (1-2) had his best outing in three postseason starts, but still came up on the short end. The left-hander allowed four runs on 10 hits, striking out six and walking two, over six-plus innings. In Game 1, he served up eight runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

The Indians will hand the ball to 23-year-old right-hander Fausto Carmona, who also received a no-decision in Game 2. He surrendered four runs and four hits in four innings of that one, while walking five and striking out the same number.

Carmona, though, will be making just his second-ever start at Fenway, a place he has little success. He blew saves in back-to-back games as part of his 1-10 rookie season a year ago, and was then roughed up in his Game 2 start here last weekend.

In his three outings at Fenway, including regular season and postseason play, Carmona has allowed nine runs and seven hits in five innings.

These teams are no stranger to one another in the postseason, having met three times before in the divisional round. The Indians won two of those series, but the Red Sox got the best of them in five games the last time they squared off in 1999.

Game 7, if necessary, will be played at Fenway Park on Sunday.

GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!

The Prudential building lights up to cheer on the Red Sox
