There have been some robberies around my house
one right behind my house, a few more down the street
all in one cluster..... around 10 so far
Just read about it in the paper....
they are happening during the day and at night so there is no pattern....
the thing about this is
they got into the houses through UNLOCKED doors!!!!
when no one is home the doors were unlocked!!!!

Who in their right mind in this day and age keeps their doors unlocked??
I admit, I just started locking my doors about a year ago., I would even leave them unlocked at night.....

and the reason I found out about these break ins is because it was in the
throw away paper we get in the mail.... and I was looking for an ad in it...
NOTHING in our regular paper....

I'm not to worried, I think my dogs would be upset if a stranger walked in my house..

So do you lock your doors????

1. My doors are always locked even when I am home.
And my Rottweiler is a good deterrent against would-be intruders.

2. I lock my doors every night
have for years

leave the porch light on too since i read an article once about a serial killer who said that he chose the house he did because it didn't have a porch light on.

of course i'm paranoid

3. I lock them and arm the alarm when I leave.....
When I'm home, I don't find it too necessary. But I do lock them before going to bed and set the alarm (minus the indoor motion detectors).

My roommate, on the other hand, goes ballistic if the doors aren't locked when we're home. He's constantly locking me out of the house when I step outside to walk the dogs or something.

4. We lock ours.
We've rural, but we've had our share of burglaries around here. It's almost never reported in the small town newspapers, we either hear it via scanner or through LEO's.

Stay safe.

5. Obviously your dogs are responsible for the break-ins.
I always lock my doors just because it's so easy to do as a preventative action. As far as I can tell, it has never made a difference. The one time a house I was living in was broken into, they came in through a back window anyway. This just goes to show you, your damn dogs know how to break windows.

6. Yes I do but
if some kids in the neighborhood made some bump keys then they can get into lots of locked doors. So when the owner comes home they think the door was unlocked, and so will the cops and the insurance companies. Google Bump Key and you'll see what I mean.

We have 5 dogs and also those metal bars that go on top of the doors, that you see in hotels rooms. At least at night I know the bump keys can't get through those obstacles. It almost seems that law enforcement doesn't want to tell people about this new way of breaking into homes.

7. I don't lock my doors- in fact front door is opened usually
The way I tie my big dog up gives him access to the yard and couch, so even in winter the door is cracked.

We had a spree of break-ins here too a while back. They hit every house in area (big area- bout 7 homes all together). They did not hit mine. The neighbor kid who mows my grass was the criminal.

I don't know if that is why he spared our house, or if it was because I have the NC statute taped to my front door saying basically if you are in my house I can go to town on your head until I am relaxed. Well, then there is the siting(sp? siting = to get crosshairs correct in a scope) in of rifles we do off porch and the general tomfoolery we do with beer cans and pistols.

Dang, I did none of that last summer. I knew I was forgetting something.

Stay safe Lost. Keep more light outside the house than inside during the night. Lock it down.

8. We always lock our doors
There were a few break-ins in my neighborhood a few months ago. They would come during the day when they thought people were at work. Luckily, I work second shift so I am home during the day.

9. my doors are locked
should they break the door, there is an alarm and they will soon get to meet the animal pictured below if they continue. Should they defeat the locks, alarm and the dog, I have a 12ga pump shotgun that I keep loaded and I WILL dispatch their ass with OO buckshot at that point.

10. My doors are locked at all times.
I have a very large dog, alarm system, and 12ga. On the back porch, the section of the house most vulnerable to break-in, I have built a high-voltage coil and hooked it up to a motion detector. I just don't think most burglars will risk it.

Other than that I'm at the mercy of the bad guys.

Regards, Mugu
