Can anyone figure out why my right calf has been sore for the past month?
I woke up one morning with the feeling like I had a nighttime charlie-horse about a month ago, but it won't go away. It's not bad enough to make me limp (most days), but it's been extremely annoying. I've cycled many miles since this started, but I don't think that has anything to do with it, seeing as how road-biking uses a different set of leg muscles.

Do I need to eat more bananas or something? Maybe I should just buy a cane.

1. Is it the calf or the achilles?
High in the muscle or low, or all over.

3. High calf. Right where the biggest part of the muscle is.
It feels like I've been flexing it to the point where it starts to hurt.

(I was hoping you'd reply to this, BTW)

5. Is it on the "outside" or surface of the leg
or does it feel more inside. If it's the muscle, you have two big ones in the calf. One on the outside, one on the inside.

7. I'm gonna say outside.
It's right where the muscle contracts when you stand on your toes.

8. Does it hurt to touch or press on it, or only when you flex it or walk?

13. Touching it doesn't hurt.
It's more of a twinge when I'm walking or climbing stairs. Not a big deal really, but it's starting to get on my nerves.

19. For a month now?
You've maybe pulled it slightly, and your activity levels (especially with the riding) aren't letting it heal. You may want to see a doc if it doesn't get better. You could also try a compression wrap for a while, too.

TBH, my very first thought was that your bike seat may not be at the right height. Too high or too low, and you wind up flexing that ankle quite a bit, hence straining the calf. In this case I'd have asked too high, as your calf should hurt the most when your toe points down, not up.

20. A couple of things...
I recently adjusted my seat height to ensure more evenly-distributed power. (Good call!)

BUT... I notice the pain more when the toe is pointed up instead of down. It's probably nothing, to be honest. I was just getting annoyed that it hasn't "gone away" like every other muscle ache that I've had. I'll give it a few more weeks before I see a specialist. (And maybe I'll eat a few more bananas, just in case.)

4. No doctor yet.
Seeing as how I'm a typical man, I don't visit the doctor unless I think that something is Seriously Wrong. It's annoying, but not a big deal. Yet.

10. I was just going to say that.
You might increase calcium consumption... supposed to be good for involuntary cramps, I've heard.

11. I have a routine checkup tomorrow.
It's with a GP, not a sports-doctor. I'm just hoping that he won't surprise me with a prostate exam.

30. Amen
Particularly if it hurts when you pull your toes up toward your shins (Homan's sign). Any pain that's lasted more than a few days needs to be checked out - even if it's not serious (and it could be).

28. Get checked for a DVT!
Fast if you noticed any red, hardened area on your calf. Seriously, I'd hate to see something bad happen to you or anyone here. If you have a thrombus that travels to your lungs, heart, or brain, you're dead. That's how serious a DVT is. One of the first nursing assessments I do is inquiring patients post-surgically regarding the presense of calf pain to assess for possible DTV.

32. Listen: It's just a little sore.
I miss Kef just like everyone else, but I don't want to compare a tiny bit of discomfort with a serious condition. It's just a little bit sore. Seriously.
