*VEGAS* BABY!!! need some Vegas tips
So the 900 pounds of Id (me and my three old friends) all turned 40 this year so we have decided to go to Vegas for 4 days.

Any insider/frequent visitor tips?

Locals places to go (eat, music, etc.) and such????

3. Hit the Bellagio buffet. Good food.
Also, hang out near the craps table at Caesar's. You don't have to bet, but the waitresses will bring you many free drinks just for standing around.

8. I do well at the black jack table......
but my fav is the craps table. I never play the game but I meet the most interesting people there.

Tips...

Always wear a watch.

Always care a pack of baby wipes with you.

Always remember-the odds are in favour of the house.

12. "Kid looks like a shooter."
"Welcome to the Mirage, Mr. Pappagiorgio."

Craps is fun as it's kind of communal. Just bet on the Pass line. Don't Pass actually has a slightly lesser house edge, but people will give you dirty looks.

Dunno if you play poker or not, but there are low buy-in tournaments at most of the casinos daily.

Dunno if play backgammon but there's a $10 buy-in tourney ever Tuesday evening at Jackson's Bar and Grill.

Keno is a great way to relax for a while and still get free drinks.

Also, for me, no Vegas trip is complete without a ride on The Big Shot on top of the Strat. You can buy all day Tower pass that gives you unlimited rides. Best thrill ride ever. The other two rides up there, not so much.

There's also indoor skydiving which looks like it would be a blast.

15. The thing that I laugh about most in Vegas....
the slot machines in the bathrooms. No clocks anywhere. I love the free drinks, I love the colourful lights....It's an adult Disneyland-but it gets boring after 2 days for me though.

17. And how they hide the elevators
"To get to your room, go through the casino, veer to the left. Take a right at the first palm tree. You'll see a group of blackjack tables. Not baccarat, not craps. Blackjack. Turn right and wind around left. If you get to the pool, you've gone too far. You'll see elevators.
They aren't yours, stay away from them. Keep walking, you'll see more elevators, the gold ones. Those are yours."

It's almost as if they'd rather have you in the casino than in your room.

9. never go on Labor Day weekend
one hundred ten degrees three days running. About ninety degrees at midnight.

My wife was in Paris, France on Monday, and the fake Vegas version of Paris the next Saturday. Like a funhouse mirror. Vegas is bizarre.

Insider tip: find a friend with a platinum card. A club for big spenders. Lots of freebies and privileges.

Vegas is a mildly interesting freak show. If the in-laws didn't live there, we would never go. It really is for gamblers, and we don't gamble.

13. The FlyAway! (you fly...really!)
Remember the closing ceremonies for the Olympics, where the guys were flying? you can do this at the Fly Away in Vegas.

You get in a room, wearing baggy clothes, helmets etc, and there is big fan on the floor (coverd for safety of course). You lean out into the room and the wind lifts you up and you fly. FLY. The coolest thing I have ever done.

A tip, if you are thinking about going to the top of the Stratosphere for sunset pictures, be sure to get there way early. It takes a loooooooooong time to go through the mall (This is true in every casino hotel) to get to the elevators. Figure at least 45 minutes from hotel entrance to being on the viewing platform.

The Roller Coaster up there is a fun ride also. But the best coaster is out at Whisky Petes in Stateline. Highest fastest coaster ever.

The Rio buffet is HUGE and the parade show is cool, but the food is only okay. The Bellagio, the Mirage and the Aladdin are all much better.

For more food reccos go to www.chowhound.com and look up the nevada vegas board...

21. My buddies and I did that trip the year we turned 40 too.
My recommendations:

Since you're with the guys, the Beatles Love show @ the Mirage is great or Elton John @ Ceasars puts on a good show.

The steak place in New York New York is the best. Get the Dry Aged NY Strip.

Grab a burger at the Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay (you pick the farm the beef came from --- even a $160 Kobe beef option, the type of bun, the toppings, EVERYTHING). Eat at the bar and watch 4-5 big screen TV's showing sports.

Gambling with friends means you and your buddies have to commender a Craps table. Treasure Island has some friendly tables and lots of them.

Off the strip, hit the Atomic Testing Museum!

Of course you need to play golf, my favorite...The Wolf Course at Paiute Resort (not a cab ride though...rent a car for this one but you'll love it).

22. Great place to eat and get drunk
http://www.ellisislandcasino.com/ - Ellis Island microbrewery and casino - 1 block east of the strip.

$1 draft beers and an awesome BBQ chicken dinner for something like 7 bucks. Go there to get tuned up before a night at the classier and more expensive places on the strip. Your wallet will thank you.

23. Here's a tip about the Bellagio water display:
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 10:38 PM by Radio_Lady
It does not start until 3 PM on weekdays! (This may not be important to you, I realize, but just thought I'd share it.)

We stood in front of that hotel for about two hours in the sun, waiting between 12 Noon and 2 PM for the displays.

Check it out in your visitor's guide if you want to see it.

Have a great time! We did!

24. Eat at the Wynn Hotel buffet -- it's scrumptious!
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 10:46 PM by Radio_Lady
Our son's in-laws won some free passes to eat there and took us along. I don't know how much it costs or what your budget is. But everything was great there.

We also ate at a small local restaurant called Carmine's Little Italy on Durango Boulevard with friends who live in Las Vegas, NV. The Italian food was simply excellent. (However, you have to drive there from the Strip. Other people have found fault with it, so "your mileage may vary" on both the food and the driving.)

The screens run for about a half mile. The music is really loud and I think they have three different shows nightly.

BTW, I think the only 24 hour 2 buck blackjack tables on the strip are at the Sahara or on Fremont Street (downtown). may not mean much to you, but I like the little bets.
