I think I'm to the point that I just don't care. But definitely not spending as much time as I'd like. I miss everyone here!
The trip was fantastic. Thank you for asking. I was going to post about it but my threads always drop like stones so I wasn't sure I wanted to go through the trouble. I will be sorting through my pictures this weekend (almost 600, yikes!) so I can post a link if you're interested. Don't worry, I'll edit it down to only the best ones. :) I won't bore anyone with 600 pictures. LOL!
Anyway, we had great weather, fantastic food, we ate like pigs and didn't gain a pound due to all the walking. All of our accommodations worked out great. The only major hitch turned out to be a train strike in France, but it miraculously ended just as we crossed the border from Italy. So what could've been a major headache ended up just being a brief hiccup.
Here are some highlights I described in an email to my friend:
Walking around the old medieval streets of Barcelona late at night (they don't eat dinner until at least 10 p.m.) with so much activity going on all around us.
Eating porcini tagliatelli in an outdoor cafe (literally set up in the middle of the street) in Florence. It was so good I actually started to tear up.
Getting 10 minutes of relative solitude to look at Michelangelo's David before the hordes of tour groups swarmed into the room.
Standing on the medieval wall surrounding San Gimignano, looking at a nearly 360 degree view of Tuscany. An experience complete with a warm breeze rustling through olive trees, a rooster crowing, flocks of birds rising up from a field in one movement, and the smell of garlic and olive oil coming from the nearest cafe. Sigh...
Strolling through the flower and produce market in Nice on a Saturday morning listening to everyone speak French, which makes someone's request for 5 apples and a bunch of grapes sound like music.
Riding the train through Provence and spotting two white horses chasing each other through a field. It was like a sappy movie or a perfume ad or something.
Eating tapas and drinking sangria in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid, while an INCREDIBLE band of street musicians played old-time jazz.
Gelato. Pizza. Olives. Tomatoes. Chevre. Jamon. Churros con choccolate. Wine. Nuff said. :)
