1. Good movie
BUT, I am partial to Full Metal Jacket. At least the first half as I survived Marine Corps boot camp.
I watch that and laugh my ass off at the lines the DI's were saying, mainly because MY DI's used damn near the same ones.

4. Was your boot camp experience close to FMJ?
I thought DI's were now told to be more respectful of the recruits.

6. I went thru boot
back in 85 before it was sissified. Sorry but Boot camp should be the most intimidating and stressful time of your life and for a reason. Part of the reason for boot camp is to weed out those that cannot handle intense stress, because when your in combat, the enemy wont ask you if your too stressed out.

7. Ironically, I watched a documentary this morning on the Tet '68 battle of Hue City.
That was the second half of FMJ. FMJ, Hamburger Hill, Platoon .. coin toss as to which is best. I'm partial to Hamburger Hill.

EXT. PERIMETER #3 - COMPANY CP - NIGHT

At the Company CP, Harris gets on the radio with the air strike. One of the RTOs on a separate radio calls over.

RTO #5
Captain, Third Battalion Armoured's on its way with tracks 'bout 2 kliks west!

HARRIS
(ignores it, into radio)
Snakebite leader, Ripper Bravo Six, we're gonna need you soonest be advised I've got zips in the wire down here, over!

PILOT'S VOICE
(distorted high frequency)
Roger your last Bravo Six, Snakebite lead we can't run it any closer. We're hot to trot and packing snape and nape but we're bingo fuel. It's your call, Six actual, Over.

Harris looks around. The decision made.

HARRIS
Snakebite leader, Bravo Six, for the record, it's my call. Dump everything you got left ON MY POS. I say again, I want all you're holding INSIDE the perimeter. It's a lovely war. Bravo Six Actual and Out.

Pilot's reaction. Very calm. A Farmboy twang.

PILOT'S VOICE
Roger your last Bravo Six. We copy it's your call. Get em in their holes down there. Hang tough, Bravo Six we are coming cocked for treetops. Whiskey to Echo ... Snakebite Two, this is lead. Last pass on zero niner. Watch my smoke to target, expend all remaining. Follow my trace ...

12. R. Lee Ermey is awesome
http://www.youtube.com/v/zeX5HSBFooI&rel=1

Private Pyle's breakdown on the island was so tragic because Kubrik convinces the viewer that the private is finally starting to get his shit together even to the point of receiving praise on the rifle range from the gunny. You are pulling for Private Pyle in exactly the same way the Hitchcock made us root for Janet Leigh only to see their characters exit their films half way through.

13. Good flick that came out after Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.
I'm partial to FMJ as Kubrick can do no wrong in my book, though I think HH is very underrated.
