Has Prozac Or Another SSRI Made a Big Positive Difference In Any Other DU'ers Lives?
I've only been taking Prozac for a month. The difference it has made in my life so far has been tremendous. For the first time in years, I don't feel like I'm being ruled by my emotions. I can actually, sleep and relax and focus so much better. Can I look forward to this continuing?

2. Check out the side effects tho'. IMO no long term change can take place without a change

in viewpoint or cognitive change. There's shit that can't be helped, you're only human etc. Never took Prozac. Glad it works for ya!

BTW I'm not a doctor so this probably is not good advice in any way shape or form.

8. I'm not sure that i follow what you are saying
Prozac helps people whose serotonin levels aren't right. It's not about understanding their childhood upbringing or somethin'

Remember when you had intense pain? Didn't the percocet or vicodeine help you master the pain without the need for you to go into therapy?

18. Chemical imbalance vs. Cognitive imbalance
If you're saying that it's a physiological thing then perhaps it is best to use the meds. Always with meds you have to look up the side effects.

I know people who've had SEVERE side effects with head meds. I don't know the stats but I do know that some head meds have warning instructions because they caused people to become suicidal for example especially for teens.

And people who've changed their meds and became just fine.

Percocet is for physiological pain. Yes there are doctor's who deal with Pain Management and there are psychological effects sometimes when you are in pain which may require you to see a therapist.

4. Indeed
Effexor. But holy hell, if I miss a dose...the withdrawls are scary and fast. :scared:

I've been on several different ones, but Effexor has made the most difference.

6. Yes. For those who truly need the help with serotonin
levels, it helps. I have been much better for the past seven years after starting them. It also helps with my stomach issues. When I get anxious, excited, upset, etc...those emotions go directly to my gut. With the SSRI medications, that is calmed down quite a bit.

7. It was a big help for my post partum depression.
I only had to be on it temporarily, but I don't know how I would have made it through that without it. It made a huge difference, and the side effects for me were minimal and well worth it. Not everyone's experiences are the same, of course, because not all depression is the same.

9. For about a year.
Prozac was a god send, if only for a year. I leveled out at the max dose and it stopped working.

10. My husband took Wellbutirn for about two years.
It helped him tremendously, and he was grateful for it at the time. He was able to wean himself off of it, and things have been decent since.

the unlucky descendants of depressives on both sides of the family going back three generations! Don't be surprised if you find you have to fine tune your medication later on, changing the dose or the SSRI.

13. Yes.
Lexapro gives me the lift I need, and Depakote smooths out the highs and lows.

My mother reports that my father, the raging, miserable lion, was a lamb on Prozac. Being happy freaked him out so much he stopped taking it :eyes:

15. They saved my life.

No joke.

All the gals in my family have been hit with major hormone-related depressive episodes. I really thought I was going to have to be hospitalized at one point.

Any kind of antidepressant treatment can be tricky to get right -- finding the right kind and the right dosage can take awhile and be frustrating.

I lucked out with Celexa -- literally within a few hours of starting my first dosage things began to get better for me, the hamster on a wheel in head slowed down, the suicidal thoughts stopped, and my incessant crying dried right up. It was truly miraculous.

I have been on meds for four years now, with no need for a dosage increase. I have been stable and able to handle the continuing challenges I have faced. I still have my bad days, but they are "normal" bad days -- the kind that everyone else has.

Good luck with your treatment and I am happy that it is working for you! :hi:

16. Prozac was very helpful to me...but I had annoying side effects.
Now I am on Zoloft. SSRIs have made a HUGE difference in my life.

17. Lord yes.
I've been on a low dose of Zoloft since January, and even though it's a small amount of medication, the difference is pretty dramatic. I feel like I have my own brain back after having to use someone else's defective one for years. I only wish I had done this 10 years ago.

Aside from vivid dreams (not bad ones, just super weird), I haven't noticed any side effects. And that one can actually be kind of fun.
