Internet connection problem! Help!
Ok, this is actually for Sniffa. At home we have an HP pc, running XP, hooked up to a wireless router, cable modem, which also run my wireless MacBook. For 2 days now, Sniffa has been completely unable to connect to the internet in either Firefox or IE. My Macbook is connecting perfectly fine and is as fast as always. All the cables are connected, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks! :hi:

1. Hopefully someone here will have the answer but you may want to crosspost
In the Computer Help and Support Group. Here's the link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=242

2. Have you disconnected
the router and the cable modem from the power?

Disconnect the router first. Leave it unplugged for several minutes. plug it back in - restart the problem computer....

6. I have to do this occasionally. Computer off, router off, then modem off...
...leave them off for a minimum of 60 seconds, then turn the modem on, then the router, then the computer. That resets everything, and I'm able to reconnect.

8. Actually you should unplug both at the same time, then plug the cable modem in first...
Followed by the router once the modem establishes the connection. Doesn't sound like something she would need to restart the modem for though, since the other computer connects fine. It's definitely a networking issue between sniffa's computer and the router.

5. Try hardwiring to the modem/router.

Since you're not having a problem, it sounds like it might be on his computer's end.

Restarting the modem isn't a bad idea, either. Might just be whatever port he's using.

7. Reboot. Unplug modem and router and restart.
This happens all the time here. At any time, all the PCs are connected just fine for days, then one loses it and the connection cannot be repaired, while all the others are still fine. The only way to fix it is to reboot the modem and router (and probably the computer as well).
