Help me figure out at what velocity this Dell Optiplex desktop will hit the ground when I toss the fucking thing out the window.

I really wish I could bring my mac to my volunteer job...

11. No problem
Let's say you're 25 feet up.

Distance equals one-half acceleration times time squared.

25 equals one-half times 32 times time squared

25 equals 16 times time squared

25/16 equals time squared

1.56 equals time squared

time equals 1.25 seconds

Velocity equals acceleration times time

Velocity equals 32 times 1.25

Velocity equals 40 feet per second or about 28 miles per hour.

Is that fast enough? :-)

17. If you are strong, you might be able to toss it up another 10 feet

which will give it a final velocity of about 31 mph (roughly - I did the math in my head, so there is no actual precision).

Or, you can throw it toward the ground as hard as you can, giving it perhaps an initial velocity of 50 mph, for a final velocity of about 75-80 mph.

Throw it out of a car at highway speeds into a bridge abuttment.

I once got to shoot a computer monitor with a shotgun. THAT was pretty cool!!!

8. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen Dell Optiplex?

Well now, that depends. Is is an African or European Optiplex?

19. Physics is mathEMATICAL
but it is not math. Physics is physics; mathematics is math.

My father, who is a *very* good physicist, would not want to be called a mathematician, and I, a mathematics teacher, would never claim to be a physicist.

18. Build or borrow a trebuchet.
That way you can lob the thing a considerable distance, thus increasing the time during which you can enjoy its demise. Somebody else will have to figure out the math, though.
