My ten year old is trick or treating for UNICEF.
She asked me to order the stuff for her. Her argument was that she never eats all the candy anyway--so why not do something good?

When the kit came from UNICEF it had ten boxes. Material Girl took the kit to school to see if any other kids wanted to do it, and her teacher decided the entire class was gonna trick or treat for UNICEF in the school during the party today. They actually sent a note home telling parents what was gonna happen and that if they wanted to send spare change in with their kids they'd love to have it.

HOW COOL is that!!!!???

I remember doing it when I was a kid, but I have to admit that I have not had anyone come to my door in recent years with a UNICEF box. I wonder, is there a whole generation of people who have never experienced Trick or Treat for UNICEF???

1. My daughter always did both.
Bag for candy, and a box for Unicef.

The other kids always bitched that she slowed them down, so I usually
had to go with her......

2. I figured we take a bag out tonight along with the canister.
If anybody wants to give her some candy that is ok with me, but it isn't the main reason she's going out.

I can remember as a kid that it was ALL about covering the turf and maxing out on the amount of candy you got. I can see how the kids would have given your daughter a hard time for slowing them down. Kids really CAN be pretty mercenary!

7. I didn't blame the other kids!
Everybody's ready with the candy, but it takes 'em
a while to root around for money when they're not
expecting it.....

3. My daughter has been doing that for a few years now.
She is absolutely thrilled when she gets the Thank You letter in the mail from Unicef. It's a good thing.

4. I used to when I was a kid
I had forgotten about that. Maybe I'll have the kids do it next year.

Good idea.

5. Good for her!
:toast:

As a kid we used to get the boxes from school. Everyone got one. All the houses we visited used to have a bowl of loose change for the UNICEF boxes.

It's been a couple of years since I've lived in a house where kids came for Hallowe'en, but there were still a fair amount carrying UNICEF boxes. Not as much as when I was younger, but still some.

8. I still remember my mom when I was a kid warning us to NOT >
show that Unicef collection can to my (very conservative/Republican) grandmother. I asked "why?" She gave me one of those non-answer answers little kids get when they ask about sex that sends them away with nothin' but still shuts 'em up somehow.
