An unorthodox road safety campaign in Australia has backfired after a motorist who was mocked for the size of his manhood was driven to road rage.

The "little pinkie" campaign features women crooking their little fingers at young men in fast cars, in a gesture which infers the men have small penises.


Launched in June by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) of New South Wales, it bears the slogan "speeding: no-one thinks big of you".

But when a woman wiggled her finger at Simon Jardak as he drove along a road in Sydney three months ago, he saw red.

Instead of shame-facedly taking his foot off the pedal and slowing to a sedate pace, he hurled a bottle at the woman through the window of his car.

"She started doing that hand gesture, you know, the RTA one," Mr Jardak told a Sydney court.

"And it offended me… because of, you know, she implied I had a small penis."

Magistrate Bill Bryden said the hand gesture might not have been justified but Mr Jardak should not have lobbed the bottle at the pedestrian.

"It was a stupid piece of behaviour by the accused," he said.

He convicted Mr Jardak of maliciously destroying or damaging property and fined him A$400.

In the road safety campaign, a young man revs his engine in front of a pair of young women at a traffic light.

As he tears away in a cloud of smoke the girls give him a pitying glance and wiggle their little fingers with a knowing look
