What the hell are "slacks"?
I'm starting an externship next week. It's no big deal; I just work at a place for a week and they evaluate my performance. However I've been told it's casual but not to wear jeans, rather to wear "slacks." WTF are slacks? Not those polyester/nylon nightmares that people wear to work and that make them look so freaking horrible? Help! What's the alternative? :scared:

2. Dress pants. Not denim or corduroy or khaki.
Probably mostly wool blends in Maine.

8. Yeah well, HE looks great.
I'm not going to look great in something like that. Oh well, that's not the issue, is it?

4. Slacks are just nice looking pants, I thought.
The cheap ones are made of those materials, but you can find nicer ones made of whatever you prefer.

9. True, but I don't want to buy anything for this week-long experience.
I wonder if I can wear skirts? I have lots and lots of longer (i.e. not mini) skirts.

12. I'm sure skirts would be acceptable.
Most businesses have just gotten used to a more relaxed dress code and accept pants on women as long as they aren't jeans. I'm sure no one would give you grief about a skirt.

10. It's not really a job, just an "externship".
I'm hoping I can wear hospital gear for the actual job but we'll see.

Otherwise, I'm doing okay, in another relationship downswing and wondering when/if I'll get the nerve to end this permanently. Soon, I hope. It's fucking ridiculous! How are you, BNL? :hi:
