Meet Merlin

Merlin is 11. He currently weighs in at 28 pounds. He'll tell you it's a glandular program...we'll tell you we constantly catch him snarfing down the dog's food. His favorite pastime is cuddling up in the laps of non-catlovers like my father, and sleeping in our faces at night. He'll deny walking on countertops when he can get his butt up there at night when we're sleeping. We'll tell you that we don't think the dog can jump that high to knock over vases of flowers and chew on the stems. He is one of a kind and he's my baby.

1. Hey, he looks like my cat!
Nero is 8 or 9, I think (we're not sure), weighs about 15 lbs (and will tell you it's a glandular problem right up until you catch him trying to open the pantry door and get into the cat food), and his favourite hobbies are getting attention, meowing, and eating. :)

Nero also has long canine teeth that overlap his lower lip -- vampire kitty!

I'd post a pic, but I don't have one.

6. All Merlin's mouth does is drool when you pet him.
Isn't funny how cats figure out how to open doors and drawers and generally cause mayhem when you least expect it?

He's sounds like a keeper!

2. What a cutie!
That's a big cat. Our big boy Chester topped at 26 lbs. and many people said he was the biggest cat they'd ever seen. (He preferred "big boned," however.)

Give him scritches and love for me! :hi:

7. Thanks! We tell people all the time that Merlin is big boned.
Many children are afraid of him which is kind of sad because he is a big pushover, love me, love me kind of kitty.

:hi:

3. Awww..He reminds me of my Miro
(on the right) with Oberon (left-silver Maine Coon, 8 months) and Puck (sleeping-3 months)-Puck's father's name is Merlin too!

Miro is about 22 pounds now, at his heaviest he was 27 pounds, so Merlin has him beat!

The kittens just looove Miro! He's everyone's buddy and favorite pillow. Black and white kitties always seem to have the most easy going personalities. :-)

Every 20+ pound cat I've known has been black and white; maybe it's genetic?

8. It could be genetic. Heehee. Merlin has a patch of white on his
belly. Your kitties are adorable. I keep bugging my husband for another one, but he thinks Merlin is too set in his ways to put up with a young un..although he did great when we brought Jessie the Wonder Sheltie home two years ago.

11. I think you would be surprised

if you brought in a new kitty. Miro is 15, and his best buddy Peewee (also 15) passed away this summer from a chronic illness. Both Miro and I were quite depressed by his loss, and I found Oberon just three weeks later (he was only 3 months old). After the initial 3 or so days of hissing, they slowly warmed up to one another. Now the are just inseparable!
It's best to look for a mellow breed for an older cat- Russian Blues, Maine Coons, or just a kitten that's more lovey than crazed (as most kittens are). Check out www.petfinder.com . The Humane Society also has great info on introducing cats to one another on their website.

Miro is such a good big brother!

What a hunk (or is that "chunk")?

9. He's cute
but keep him away from the dog food. The protein mix is different and he will get fat but not the nutrients he needs. Dog food has less protein and also cats can't digest the carbs dogs can and may become diabetic.

10. We try, believe me we try. We put him in the back bedroom at
feeding time. We've put the dog food in a container with a snap lid and he unsnaps it. He's maniacal for food. He was my father in law's cat for the first four years of his life and ate whatever my father in law ate. When we got him after my father in law died, the damage had pretty much been done...now it's damage control.
