Today I feel like a newborn.

Curled in a ball, internal and needy.
Awaiting the hand to guide me out,
Awakening to life from the gentle slap!
Breathing on my own.

My lips pursed, so needing succor
That sudden realization that I am not alone.
Cradled in the arms of one who cares
Whether my breath continues.

Today I gasp for that breath - that guide.
And yet none exists.

Am I an unlucky newborn?

Or must I continue to crawl on my own?
