Anyone ever gotten their eyeglasses at Costco?
I am seriously needing both an eye exam and new glasses (my arms are getting too short), and was wondering how Costco's optical department is. I do not want to spend $500 on glasses, but I know I need bifocals (badly - have for years).

5. I have put the bifocals off for about 5 years.
After my big Harry Potter readfest last week, the point was nailed home. I could not focus on anything for hours after that.

6. I got 4 pair total, 2 just last week, 1 pair last year, 1 pair in 2001
They have great prices and I have no problem with their frames. Last week I got 2 new pair of glasses--because my company pays 80% up to $300 on eyeglasses, I went for the "big shot" frames. I got 2 pair of frames, and thin lenses (I have astigmatism so cheap lenses are like coke-bottle thick) with glare and scratch proof on them and the total for both pair (lenses frames, etc) was around $215, and that's because I wanted to spend that much.

The first pair I got there were $19 wire frames and I still have them. In fact, I change my headline--I've had a total of 6 pair of glasses from them and only 3 of them were under insurance, the rest were out of pocket so I had to go cheap cheap cheap and costco was the most inexpensive around.

I think the first pair of glasses I got there were around $100 for frames, lenses AND eye exam.

Keep an eye out for buy one get one 1/2 off sale. I was able to get a great pair of Rx sunglasses for $25 that way

Overall score--5/5. Cannot say enough good things about them. Glasses come quick (although I did order some this time of year last year and it took about 3 weeks instead of the 1 to 2 they said because of the holidays). Can always get them "tuned up" when you go by costco and they have a large selection of many styles of glasses with prices ranging from $20 for frames up to $200

9. I've bought glasses from them before, but have...
never seen the Costco eye doctor.

The glasses were WAY cheaper than anything I could have gotten at a regular optometrist's office. The frame selection wasn't quite as good, and the salesperson was busy and not too much help during the frame selection process. The turn around time is extremely good, too. All in all, it's worth checking out. Your exam will be fine, and if you don't find any frames you like, you can take the prescription someplace else.

Since then, we've gotten vision insurance that covers most of the basic costs, so we've started getting glasses from my regular eye doctor. If it weren't for our new insurance, I would still be buying glasses at Costco, I'm sure.
