Could someone explain what happened in the House re:Cheney impeachment today? I spent the morning meeting with a family to plan a funeral, the afternoon writing a sermon (and posting here a bit), and no time following current events.

Thanks for any help!

edited because questions are supposed to end with this: "?".

1. Dennis Kucinich had Cheney impeached today.
Cops were in the process of forcibly removing Cheney from the WH, when Bush pardoned Cheney and reappointed him VP, making the whole thing moot.

4. Why would this embarrass the Dems?
Darth's numbers are so low, you'd think they'd support it.

6. It wouldn't.
But the naysayers have to keep inventing reasons not to impeach.

9. here's my synopsis
Dennis Kucinich introduced Articles of Impeachment against Cheney back in April, and they've been languishing in the House Judiciary committee. So today he used a special House rule to allow him to introduce the Articles to the full House.

There was an immediate motion to table (kill) DK's resolution. The overwhelming majority of House Democrats were voting to kill the Articles of Impeachment. When House repubs saw what was happening, they attacked. The House repubs started switching their votes, voting against tabling the Articles (which would have sent them to the House floor in 2 days for one hour of debate and then a vote in the House on whether to impeach Cheney).

When the r's starting switching, the Dems freaked, because the repub plan to make them look like idiots was working like a charm. The Articles got sent back to the same committee they were in, and now Pelosi and Steny Hoyer look like total lackeys of the WH.

in other news, i'm converted to Kucinich.
