Which Presidential Candidates Have a Cat at Home?
You need a stronger ego to live with a cat than with a dog. Cat people are more independent, more self-reliant.

My cat Otis is not a beginner's cat. He's affectionate when it pleases him, but he can just as easily be stand-offish as well. He would be a disappointment to anyone expecting gratitude on cue. But even though he wants things on his own terms, I still think he's a sweetheart. (Like other cat people, I have ego strength.)

Which of the presidential contenders stands up best to feline indifference? Hillary gave Socks to her admin assistant, but if she can't be home for the cat, I suppose it's all right. The thing that bothers me is that she chose the dog over the cat! What an indignity.

Does Mike Gravel have a cat? Does Dennis? How about the Edwardses?

16. Don't they only get pets...
After they're elected? The White House always has an official dog or cat, but I think the candidates wait until they're elected before they decide they'd like one.

2. Is Socks still alive?
Last I knew Bettie Currie had her.

I do know Buddy the Dog met an unfortunate end.

4. Hillary's allergic to cats
That's one reason she gave Socks to Betty Currie. The other reason: the cat took to Currie.

8. So is my wife
Which is a shame. Because as much as I love our dog, there are mornings when that thing just will not poop. And it is on those mornings that I curse and wish we had gotten a cat instead.

7. now wait a minute- dogs
dogs take a bigger commitment of time and consistency. they want a strong leader, and to get the undying love of a dog, you have to have that. cats? you have to be able to work the can opener, and scoop the litter box.
and of course, the breed of dog tells you a lot also. for instance teddy roosevelt had a pair of terriers. fdr had fala. (i think * probably always has had someone who takes care of the dogs for him. i know that barney is smarter than he is.) good terriers take a strong person. (i've got 3 bad ones myself, to prove that.)

so, can we please add the dogs to this post?

9. Seconded.
Cats are useless. All they do is take up space and use up oxygen that the rest of us need to live.

Plus, if you had some sort of a growing ray and blew your dog up to 10 times its normal size, it would still just lick you. If you did the same to a cat, it would eat you.

Freakin' cats. When's cat hunting season start?

14. yeah, but the dog doesn't purr. LOL I am a committed cat lover and always have been
My cats are pretty affectionate too but they can't knock me down. A large dog can
They are quieter, and you can leave them in the house for the weekend and not worry about them, as long as you leave them enough water, food and a fresh litter box.

Dogs are fun, silly, protective, beautiful and cute. I LIKE dogs!!! I just happen to prefer living with cats..to me dogs are like other people's children, wonderful to hang out with, take to the park, play with, but you can hand them back with no pangs of conscience.

Cats are softer, and they do purr. We do currently have 4 cats and my daughter's dog in our home. Dog is hilarious, and has a very protective attitude towards me. But my cats cuddle up with me at night and purr. One of the most relaxing things on the planet is a purring cat

But we still don't have the answer to the Original Poster. And doesn't * have a cat? I bet the cat belongs to Laura

19. The more I'm around dogs, the happier I am that I have cats.
Dogs. Ugh.

They stink. They bark. They slobber. Their fur isn't soft. They're not as cute as cats.

They bite -- Our neighbor's stupid dog was on a leash and went over to my son, who was getting off the school bus, and bit his leg. This happened on Wednesday. My son didn't even look at the dog -- he was minding his own business, and the dog just decided to bite him.

I am glad there are people willing to take care of dogs, because I believe all animals deserve to be treated well, but I'm so glad I don't have one!!

10. Ailurophiles
so, can we please add the dogs to this post?

There must be a Compendium of Political Wisdom somewhere, a tome as big as an unabridged dictionary, that counsels against revealing where you stand on the subject of cats. It's just very hard to find out which politicians have a cat in their home.

If I knew that as loathsome a guy as Mitt Romney had a cat, I might tend to view him more favorably. Of course I'd never vote for him even if he fed a feral colony. I just find cat people more likeable, that's all.

21. As a woman, may I say
that when I was single, whether or not a guy liked cats was a key factor in the relationship. I found that the ones who hated cats had fragile egos and tended to make up for it with being hyper macho jerks. Men who like cats are so much more secure with themselves and just ... cooler.

17. Yeah, but a dog'll love almost any asshole.
The real test of a candidate is whether he can keep a cat happy.
