Newest Registered Democrat

Hey DU'ers!

I put my money where my mouth (and my heart) is, went to the supervisor of elections this morning, and switched my Republican party affiliation. Not to Independent, not to Libertarian, but to Democrat. In my heart, I know it's the right thing, and it actually feels a bit liberating. Almost naughty, lol. My dad will stoke out when I tell him.

Thanks for all of your encouraging words over the last week or so since I started posting here. You guys are all fantastic.

This is one of the best Monday's of my life.

It is nice that you have freed yourself from the bonds of Rethuglican-ism.

Now, just be aware, because Wesley K Clark registered as a Democrat in 2001 alot of people here still regard him as a Rethug. They are just using that as a tool to beat him over the head cuz they know that he's the best candiate in the race right now.

So, don't take the Wesley K. Clark is a Rethuglican posts personally. We are a very open party. We love people and we love to help people. We fight amongst ourselves and we often do the whole shooting in the circle routine.

We don't mean to hurt each other. We are just passionate about how we feel and what we stand for.

Jump right on in...GD2k4 can be a little hard sometimes but it is all for the best. In the end we will unite and vote to oust GWB in November 2k4.

Which is more than I can say for the freeper site. They're a bunch of hateful thugs. Unbelieveable the stuff you get called if you post something that doesn't toe the party line. I love respectful political exchange. I hate those who try to drown out other voices with name calling and taunting. It's one of the reasons I switched parties.

It is an honor to have you among us. I am ex-Pentagon (worked there in 99) and have lots of respect for you folks, especially since I could not be among your ranks (for several reasons). I think your switch shows that you are thinking about the vital issues of the day, and that others similar to you, both in service and thought hopefully will also join us this year.

This will be the first presidential primary I've ever voted in. I once was open to voting either party, but I've been so turned off by the Republicans, it just doesn't seem likely I'll vote for them again - unless they really change their ways.

Before she died, my mother quit voting because refused to vote Democrat but hated the way her party was taken over by the Religious Right and dingalings like Rush and Newt.

You did the right thing! There are X repubs all over this country who are diong the same thing, because they love their country! You are a patriot because you care more about your country than about less important personal issues! Let's save the country first, so we can all then tend to the details once the country is a democracy again! Liberty for ALL, is what a patriot stands for IMO!

I have never registered with a party but have voted mostly Dem, here in Illinois you don't have to register one way or the other to vote in the primaries.

Repub to Dem so I could vote in the primary

I switched from Republican to Democrat a few eyars back myself. Had registered R at age 18 because everybody I knew growing up was Republican. I think I only voted R in one election though. I changed my registration because of the Clinton impeachment. I could not stomach being part of that group even in name only!!
