We don't have cable, but the reviews were so glowing that I downloading a few episodes onto my iPod and watched them while traveling (instead of some of the appalling movies they show on USAir).
Wow! Anybody who says there's nothing good on TV should be forced to sit down and watch this. Gorgeous to look at, beautifully written and acted, spot-on early 60's design; what's not to like? And the casting is excellent (come on, Robert Morse as the head of the agency?) They deal with the ugly part of that time as well: the misogyny, anti-Semitism, homophobia and constant smoking.
So I blew some of the money I save on cable and downloaded the whole damned season. The last episode had one event that wasn't to surprising to the observant (they had thrown out enough clues earlier) and an ad pitch that was absolutely lovely (who would think an ad pitch could be lovely?) Was delighted to see they got picked up for another season even though NO ONE I know watched it.
If you're looking for something to watch while you're missing The Daily Show or Colbert, you might want to check On Demand for "Mad Men".
