I feel very sad suddenly
Combination of things. It catches me off guard when I'm happy for most of the day and then suddenly something will change my mood. It's almost worse than if I hadn't been happy.

Does that make any sense?

If I could, I'd eat a pint of Starbucks ice cream (my favorite) right now. But, if I did that, then I'd feel worse next time I got on the scale.

Oooookay... this was my whiny thread of the day...

just ignore me.

:-(

THAT has to make you happy.

9. I know what you mean
The mind becomes sad, and our habitual memories trigger us to do things that we think make us happy, or that do make us happy but only for a short time, followed by a lot of regret and anger at ourselves.

This is the human condition. We don't know how to distinguish between real happiness and pleasure. I struggle with this too, all the time.

You are not alone, and you are very perceptive to even recognize this pattern.

11. Most people live this way every day and don't
recognize the patterns.

It is a great achievement for most people just to see what they are doing in their lives.

Good luck to you. It is a challenge. Maybe the reason we are here is to face these challenges.

12. This is the sort of topic I wish we would see more of,
because I'm sure many people here can relate to this. And it is very important. Nothing is more important than being mentally and physically balanced during these incredibly difficult times we are going through.

14. Thanks again
I saw where you are a Buddhist. If you ever get a chance, be sure to visit the Buddhist Temple on Oahu (Valley of the Temples), if you haven't already.

I keep hoping one day I will be able to.

Thanks for the beautiful picture and words of hope.

God, that picture is beautiful. I dream of seeing places like this.

Taking pictures helps me focus on some of the good things in life when for no apparent reason I get the blues. Hope you feel better soon.

20. Thanks. You're right..
Maybe tomorrow, after I take the cats to the Vet's office. I hope the rain holds off... though I know I shouldn't be selfish about that, since we need the rain.

21. A lil something about me KC2
I constantly monitor my drinking.

The main reason I do this is for some reason on the happiest, bestest days ever I seem to make the night pure hell in a drunken stupor. Oddly enough, on sad days (since I am not bad depressed like I was some time ago) I tend not to drink much.

I'm so happy my GF understands this, usually. ;)

I think its odd. I don't always notice the buzz creep in on me on a happy day til it's too late and I'm all introspective or incoherent suddenly.

23. I get that a lot
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 10:27 PM by cuke
I'll have a thought, or something will happen, and it triggers a flood. I just wait till the tide goes back out and I can function again. One of the worst things about it for me is the feeling I'm losing control of my thoughts.

Everything changes. Ride it out and don't resist too much. Accept the reasons for it and deal with it as best you can. And remember the support you have from family and friends

24. "The fear of losing control of my thoughts"
Me too. That is really my worst fear, and if I do go astray, I feel terrified that I've allowed myself to lose control.

I used to think I was going crazy. Since being diagnosed with a mental disorder (anxiety and depression) I no longer worry about it. I now realize it's only a short trip

28. Clinical depression here
Meds have helped, but I've lost my desire to create. Or maybe my priorities have just shifted as the crises we face get more important to me than writing.

It's so easy to control the world in art, and so hard to make a difference in the real world.

Also, for me personally, November to February are my worst, worst months. The rest of the year is fantastic.

29. I think mine is called "dysphoria"
Basically, mild chronic depression. I was taking Lexapro for a while, and it helped, but it was making me too sleepy, so I stopped. I'll start again when I get some help around here so I can go out and earn some money to pay for it.

And maybe the reason you don't do as much art when you're feeling well is because you don't need it as much then. I'm the opposite. I haven't made any music in over two years. I haven't even tried.

30. All I can say is that I empathize with your frustration
Maybe there is some "reason" that you have been distracted from your art that will become clear to you in the future. Being an artist is very hard and confusing. There are many distractions and detours. Just know that I wish you the best, and also, it's really nice to converse with other people in the arts. Where I live, I don't know anyone who shares any of my interests, so it's really nice to talk sometimes on line to people who are in the creative arts.

Take care.
