Good gawdz, dinner at the Rainforest Cafe

Gave me a frackin' headache. Why is that place so popular? We went there tonight (our last night vacationing in Orlando) and could barely converse because of how loud the "sound effects" were--screeching monkeys and squawking birds and whatever the hell else they think a rainforest sounds like--not to mention the "thunderstorm" at regular intervals, which freaked out MG Jr. no end. No wonder they can have lines out the yin-yang and yet move people through fairly quicky--way to get diners the hell out--blast 'em out.

Somebody please tell me that some of their profits actually go to saving the rainforest...at least then I'll feel better about dropping $80 plus tip in that place.

It did make me want to go back to a REAL rainforest, however. (We honeymooned in Costa Rica.)

I've never been there, though.

Anyway, if you like to converse during your meal, this is not the place to dine. (The food is fine but nothing to write home about. Serviceable.)

I did get a nice fleece pullover for 25% off in the gift shop, though. :shrug:

There is one at the Tokyo Disneyland area. My daughter wanted her 11th birthday there, so we indulged and took her. It wasn't crowded and it was quite fun. The noises were not overwhelmingly loud and the kids got a kick out of the animals and thunderstorms.
Going to Landry's Restaurants website, who own Rainforest Cafe restaurants, it doesn't say anything about funds to help the rainforest. No info at the Rainforest Cafe website either. So, it doesn't sound like it.

Orlando's was deafening. I equate it to the restaurant-version of a thrill ride like a big-scary-noisy rollercoaster or a blockbuster movie--some folks love it, others can't abide it. I'm not a thrill ride/blockbuster type person, so maybe that applies to my choice of restaurants as well.

you can really hear the rainforest nice and loud.....Carlydenise party of 4 step up to the elephant, your journey is about to begin.....it was louder outside where the parents with their kids were waiting to be seated, near the stroller parking area, but it was fun to watch the excitement of the kids and parents when their name is called..my kids really enjoyed going there..the one I went to had some real parrots in the gift shop, so that was kinda cool, it's waaay to expensive to eat there.

I like to enjoy a quiet dinner with no gimicks.

The two times we went. It's pretty expensive to take a whole family.

I can't imagine wanting to go without the kids. TOO MUCH NOISE!

Aside from being averse to the volume of the "thunderstorm", he didn't really pay much attention to the surroundings. Noted the gorillas, pointed out the "rain" falling, but that was pretty much it. As usual, he had more fun with the cars he had brought to amuse himself. Oh--and he liked the safari SUV I bought him in the gift shop. Of course. :eyes:

(and yes, that was many years ago...they are on my 'do not patronize' list)
