1. MMmmmmm....love me some Vicodin...
had plenty of that stuff after my ankle surgery....

Got hooked on it, actually...for a short time

You have a headache? Take some Excedrin...that works much better...it is the Headache Medicine

13. Well, I didn't take the Vicodin *for* the headache, I took it for something else.
I just noticed I had the headache and I want to rail against the injustice of it all.

2. Sometimes hydrocodone can *cause* headaches
Happens to me at least half the time when I have to take it. I've started referring to them as "Lortab headaches".

5. Yikes.
I did not know that. But it's not happened before, and I'm a old hand with the Vikes.

28. I think the 500 mg is the amount of Tylenol in it. The hydrocodone part
is either 5, 7.5 or 10 mg.

10. No.
It's not severe, but it's just enough to notice and it's wholly unnecessary, IMO.

16. I beg to differ: You may think that Vicodin "sucks," but for some people, it's
Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 12:35 AM by Redstone
a life-saver.

Chronic pain wires the brains of people who live with it in a manner different from those of you who are not Pain People.

Some of have been saved by opioids. Please don't condemn them, unless you've been where we Pain People are.

17. I have been in debilitating pain. Vicodin does suck - for *me.*
I cannot take it. It makes me violently ill. There are other super-pain relievers that do work for me. Vicodin is not one of them.

18. Aha. Sorry for the tone of voice: Oxycotin was the same for me. Made me
sick as a dog, without much pain relief.

Ditto Fentanyl. Plus, the predominant side effect of Fentanyl is that you stop breathing and die. I'd rather have the pain.

15. Vikes are NOT for headaches. Trust me on this; I take four EXs a day.
For three weeks, then off for an unpleasant week, to re-set the tolerance clock.

Headaches are not what they're for. Try some Ibuprophin.

19. I've since taken some naproxin sodium
Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 12:46 AM by Richardo
That works the best for me.

Again, I didn't take it *for* the headache, I just got the headache whil it was in my system. I thought it ironic.

20. Yes, Naprosin is a great NSAID. It worked well for me before
I got "sensitized" to NSAIDS because of heavy usage for arthritis over the years.

21. Some analgesic drugs, when the body has seen them too often, ...
Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 01:09 AM by dotcosm
will produce exactly what you describe -- I think they call it "medication overuse headache"

I have experienced this also, when treating back pain with one drug, and then getting a headache! Talk about a pain in the ass!

I told my doctor about it and he shrugged; so I looked it up on Pub Med and sure enough, it's a known side effect.

22. Narcotic painkillers won't usually do anything for headaches.
Different painkillers work on different types of pain.

Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 08:06 AM by dajoki
does the trick for me. One thing though, I find it helps to hold the cup close to your mouth and nose and breathe it in also. BTW, I never heard of a 500 mg Vicodan.

32. That's probably 500 mg of Tylenol/Acetaminophen. Keep track of how much you take
Do not take more that 4000mg (4 grams) of Acetaminophen per 24 hour period.

Take less if you drink.

Take none if you have liver problems.
