My dad will not go on a plane, but he will go on a bus and a ship.
He can't go anywhere because the last time he was on a plane, about 3 years ago, he contracted bronchitis and thought he was going to die. He will be 80 next year.
He has also found out he has macular degeneration. One eye is pretty far gone.
Anyway, he was invited to CA and MX to celebrate a son-in-law's 60th, and just will not fly. But he wants us to consider going on a cruise for his 80th, and he recently 'enjoyed' a bus trip for 2 days from NY to FL with a bunch of other people.

I'm on his shit list for asking him to fly, and we haven't talked for about 3 weeks. It's killing me, but I do share one trait of his, stubbornness. And I know, he's "old", but he's a butt-head.

The minute I call him, he's going to start asking when we can plan a trip on a ship for a cruise. :eyes:

ever again..unless it's absolutely necessary..

Maybe your dad could go by train?

2. Are you ornery, or worried you'll get sick? His is the latter, but he
doesn't recognize the direness he might be putting himself in by just living.

and I am never in a hurry, and I am SOO uncomfortable on planes :(
and yes I am ornery too :)

I used to be a travel consultant and flew A LOT when flying was still fun...but no more flying for me...

and as a smoker, I cannot even take the train, so we drive..

We bought a new comfy car and can take our time, stop when and where we want and if we want to light up, we can :)

Everyone we are related to who lived a ways from us, has passed on, so even an emergency trip would be within driving range :)

5. Dad's thing is flying. As for smoking, I fly every year for
hours and hours, many trips to Narita, Japan and onward. I smoke, but put it out of my mind til I get where I'm going. And Dad doesn't smoke. He's old and paranoid. He told a few people he'd go, but if he died, it'd be their fault. That's just lame.

6. When we flew to LAX- Tahiti a few years ago, we were
very ready to FINALLY land.. I was wishing I had been drugged so I would not have had to experience ALL THOSE HOURS.. Tahiti was nice, but never again will I take that long of a flight, anywhere :)

3. I hate flying.
I don't absolutely refuse to fly, but I really hate flying.
