Poll question: Is Craftsman the ghetto of the tool world?
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 01:01 AM by Omphaloskepsis
I bought my BIL this tool set for CMAS. He has a shitty socket set right now.. I thought this was better and was in my price range.. He is an union electrician. Will his co-workers give him shit for sporting Sears gear?

edit::Looks like the Sears site is down.. Fitting.

1. Well, they are servicable.
And if anything happens to them you can always replace them for free. However, Klein Tools are the tools of the professional electrician.

4. If the tool fits.............
Still have Craftsman tools that were my Dad's from the old days. I also have a mix of many brands, depending on the tool and it's use. I broke a 1/2" drive Craftsman jumbo ratchet this past summer I had bought in the 60's as an apprentence tech and they replaced it no questions asked. New tool even better.

Snap On is to Matco, is to Cromwell is to Mac Tools s to SK is to Craftsman.

I need a new tool.

6. Do you need a receipt to get something replaced?
Do they care?

P.S. I spilled water on my keyboard last night. Copy and pasting text is a bitch.. So yes this entire post was copy and pasted from text I found. TEDIOUS. Time to go get a new keyboard...

7. Any Sears store will replace- no questions - no receipt
Now "catalog centers" like I have here in my county loses $money$ shipping so they try to get out of replacing. I raised a stink about the local place to the main Craftsman part of Sears. Since the store here is private or something they are not obligated to swap out tools.

I took the same tools to a sears in a mall 2.5 hours away and swapped nooo problem. The swap is only good for hand-tools as far as I know.

15. Nope if it says Craftsman on it and it's broken, they swap to the closest match.
My ratchet was literally 40 years old. And they don't throw them away. Apparently they go back for examination by someone.

8. Craftsman is a great tool
I inherited many of my grandfather's Craftsman tools which he purchased in the 50's and 60's. He made his living with these tools and would never bother buying junk. They are great tools that will outlast me.

11. Not as far as I'm concerned
Craftsman have been my tool of choice through 3-4 different trades, and I have always loved them.

Funny Story. hehe,

I was doing a remodeling job on a house that got tore up during Hugo in Santee, SC.

A guy there didn't like the waffling the hammer had on the head because he was using hammer for trim (dumbarse) so he ground it off. Then we were doing some framing and somehow or another he borrowed my hammer, waffling intact. He had since bought a finishing hammer and realized he was stupid for grinding off the waffles on head.

So, one day at lunch he decided to "break" the hammer so there were no questions asked for a return. We tried quite a while to it after work. We were drinking beers and just abusing the hammer trying to break it. Playing around he decided to drive over it with his truck. It still wouldn't break.

I went home and he showed me the hammer the next day in 2 pieces. He said he just kept swinging the hammer on cement mixer for 2 hours until he broke the handle.

The next day he came to work with a brand new hammer.

:hi:

14. Craftsmen tools have served me well for 40 years
I don't believe tools are something someone should bargain shop for. I don't do much business with Sears besides tools but I always peruse their tool aisles. They occasionally come up with a handy dandy gadget, but over the years I've collected almost all of them (the ones I need anyway.) and they've yet to fail me.

He never had any problem with his tools walking away!
